Enhancing environmental health conditions in lower income neighbourhoods
Wealthy people can afford to pay a little extra to maintain well manicured and sanitary environmental conditions, however the majority of the working class families and the poor can ill afford that extra expense, it is therefore incumbent upon government authorities to find innovative ways of encouraging these depressed communities to engage in cooperative ventures, which require just some of their time and energy to clean streets and abandoned areas, and plant trees and flowers which can enhance their environments. When persons are involved in the development of their community, they are less likely to litter and deface their surroundings. These types of ventures may lead to volunteerism, jobs for the unemployed, utilizing the skills and experience of the elderly, and employing the energy of the adolescents. Giving back will also give them a sense of pride and ownership of the project. All in all, well organized and motivated neighborhoods inspire excellence in other social aspects of life, such as health, family relations, child care, education, and spirituality, which in turn reduce the impact and prevalence of communicable diseases, domestic violence and other negative social behaviors.
