I earned my associate degree in accounting but many people I know that are bookkeepers do not have any educational degree beyond their highschool diploma. One suggestion I have is to get certified through the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers - its good for your resume.

Businesses will hire me as a contractor to help them keep track of their spending, payroll, loans and various other payments. I work to prepare and interpret financial reports and help identify discrepancies! It keeps me busy and its nice to set my own hours.
