Sick of interviews
Has anyone had this problem. You nail the interview but, your too old to get hired. I am qualified for positions but, I have been on 5 interviews. Out of the 5 interviews, three of the interviewees were 20 years younger. I am 49, I didn't think that is too old, but, if your manager is going to be in her 30's , she might be intimidated. Or maybe I am overqualified. Praying hard. Anyone else experience this???

I was laid off in July 2013 from a job I held for 12 years for a plumbing sales company. The owner is a real piece of work,to be kind. He laid me off when I was on vacation with a simple phone call. I tried for several years with many interviews with no luck. I had almost 40 years experience. I had worked for my dads plumbing company and even ran it when he became sick. We had to sell because family wanted the money and nothing to do with it. Meanwhile I have all this knowledge of the business yet no one wants me. So at 62 I decided to retire. I still would like something for a little extra money. But nothing. I now firmly agree age discrimination does exists,I’m proof of that.

Yes... Age Discrimination is real. They get my resume, I get called, they are really interested then they meet me in person and quickly loose interest.

Oh yeah. Been there. Totally qualified for the job (I was 52 at the time) as a software developer. They interviewer was at least 20 years younger than me, lobbed some softball questions and said thanks. You can't prove age discrimination. So, I figured I'd try a more management position at another company and got a job. Grey hair means you don't belong with the puppies in the coding pit. Then, got fired again after four years on that job when it went to India. Now, going for the PMP cert. because if you have that, employers EXPECT grey hair.

I've had two jobs where I nailed the interview, taken out from under me cause suddenly the company decided not to hire for that position, and a few others I believe I've lost out on because I'm too honest and tell them up front that I need the ability to speak with my husband when it's needed as he is a disabled veteran with mental heath problems.
It takes us years to get the experience necessary for employers to take us seriously then we wake up one morning and we are turned down for jobs because they would rather have an inexperienced inexpensive new grad!! They are short of nurses? How about the experienced nurses? Or even mildly disabled nurses? Tap into those pools
Yes

I agree, the entire system is broken. Might as well write a resume on a handkerchief or typewriter like what our ancestors would do.

I am only 36 but my kids being in college I think puts people on edge and I seem to always get the job but they want to change the pay or rules after I am promised the world . Keep going , the only thing this is telling you is their is something better out their for you.

Yes. I am qualified for a the jobs that I have interviewed for only to be told that they liked me but they decided to go with another candidate. Very discouraging. I don't know what to do.
That's Willie
