I have been in childcare for 11 years, but I want a change. What kind of job deals with kids but not in a daycare?

The hospital or healthcare always need people with special skills dealing with kids in the peds department or for a children hospital..... Good luck

Hi Robin, I think there are lots of options. But would be good to understand why you want the change. Do you want to get away from working with kids and see how those skills translate, or do you like working with kids but just don't want to be in a daycare setting? If its moving away from kids, then I think caregiving of many different ages works really easy (big new career paths in elder care as the Boomers get older fyi). What you'll want to do is think about the skills that you put to use on a given day. I am sure you deal with parents as well so that would suggest conflict resolution, planning, communication, etc. I presume you have to be organized as well. There are lots of administrative jobs that would require those skills and experience. You would just want to help an interviewer translate. (fyi: my wife used to manage a bunch of brokers/traders on wall street then decided to be a stay-at-home mom. Her view was there was VERY little difference in the two jobs...).

If you are looking to stay involved with kids, but just a different venue then you might want to think about school related jobs. Even if you don't want to be a teacher there are a ton of other aspects in administration or librarians, or the like. Heres an interest take also from our friends at CareerBuilder. Some of these might require some schooling but that isn't as hard to get done these days as you might think:

Hope this helps your thinking. great question - I'll look forward to what better informed Jobcasers than I might suggest.... Good luck, Fred
