Help me clean up my look
I've been applying for jobs but I don't own any good clothes, when I go in to put in a resume in person or go in to check my status and stuff they always see me in a hoodie and my old jeans and I know it's probably doing more harm than good. But I've been unemployed for so long I don't know how to get clothes without sacrificing food or something vital. How can I get myself dressed better so I don't seem like a bum when I go to apply?

Managers look for cleanliness first. Where what you have as long as it's clean and you should be good.

You should see if any churches or community centers near you can help you out.

Invest in a nice pair of slacks or trousers, don't forget a belt. A couple of long sleeved, button front shirts - solid colors (white/blue). Make sure your hair is cut, shoes shined, fingernails trimmed and clean. Add a sports coat and a tie when you can. You can find plenty of bargains out there. Hide tattoos and piercings if you have them. If you smoke, don't do it before an interview to minimize the smell.

Jake, ask Goodwill to help you through their Job Program. Your clothes are just an indication of other issues needing improved. Good luck!

First look over your spending... Cigar, cigarette, beer..... DROP THEM for two to 4 days. That's how I got my new Hager Pants from Walmart. Then I went to Labor Ready for 3 days of labor and paid for my new shoes in Shoe Carnival. Last my shirt came from a church with a cloths closet. Out to my local Union Mission Shelter with my shower shoes and a razor. My interview with AMR Ambulance and 3 days later a call from them to be at work for $14.75 hr as an EMT.... I was sleeping in my car as I finished EMT school here in Atlanta. I came from Virginia Beach, VA. But it's all in what you want to do. It's just you..... Sorry that there was no magic bullet or a blow dust formula for you. Select Temps and Labor Ready pays EVERYDAY.... Try the hard road.... You'll thank me later....

Jake try your local church. Some churches have clothing closets. Try other community resources. Also thrift stores have nice clothes too; usually thrift stores have special days for Mark downs.

Even in hard times if you present yourself in the right way it makes a difference. Show them you want to work. Pardon my attire...

Only Shadows look good in hoodies. Go to your local church for help. Pray and have faith. God believes in you! I see you in a job that you will love. Shower shave and smile with a nice shirt. You will get your job soon as you need. But look at what you love to do and go for a job doing that. If you need training you can apply for free grants FAFSA. federal re training money waiting for you look into furthering your education.

You could always try the nearest goodwill, things are a lot cheaper and it may take time but you could find something
You can get amazing finds ,if you carefully plow through the racks at your local salvation army store. Also most consignment shops provide some deals but watch because they are not donated clothes and will be more expensive. Also you can dicker . I do not know what type of job you seek but a nice clean 100 percent cotton shirt, neatly pressed khakis or solid color trousers with a conservative tie will usually work for most jobs. Never wear cheap shoes! If you have to forgo a meal to make a purchase ,put it in shoes! Also spit shine! Best of luck. Keep it clean and simple.
