Trucker

She turned me in!!!

I was driving along interstate 10 doing a haul when I realized REAL fast that there was construction and I needed to get off pretty quickly. The next exit was on the left and I was all the way over like I should be, so I signaled and moved over. This woman in a minivan all of a sudden starts blaring her horn again and again. She was a good few 10 feet behind me and must have thought I cut her off but I swear I didn’t. An hour later my boss calls me and says she turned me in for reckless driving. I have no video footage to back me up. Am I in trouble here? Never had a problem before.

Charge Nurse Second Shift at Sc State

I am sorry this happened to you. I have no idea why some people are so crazy while driving. I try to be a good driver and polite just yesterday I realized I needed to get over and slowed down and turned on my signal and waited to see it someone would kindly let me over. I waited an there was a lady in the lane I needed to get into and there was plenty of room for me to get over the lady sped up and made sure I could not get in rarely do I get mad but I must say I did give her the one finger salute(I am not perfect and felt guilty over my response. The lady behind her kindly let me over and I thanked her. Now I must go to the con side in 2017 I was hit by a semi I was driving my Prius V and the truck that hit me did not even know I was attached to the front of his vehicle and he kept driving until he rammed my Prius into the rear of another truck. The driver got out of his truck did not even check on me he just stood beside his truck talking on his cell phone. I was laying on the grass injured waiting for an ambulance to arrive. None of the airbags deployed I had a fractured sternum and scapula and tissue injuries. I will not go into my ER experience. So I do understand people over reacting to sudden movements of semi's.

I would say your past driving record has the credibility to let your employer know you are a cautious driver. It’s too bad that some people driving smaller vehicles these days don’t recognize that we should share the road.

If you cut in front of her with only ten feet of space you were too close. Should have backed out of it, let her get by and then changed lanes. As professional drivers it is up to us to take responsibility for the safety of those around us.

My boss once told me he had a call about me and I asked him, "Yea? Which one?" He'll no you're not in trouble IF you don't have an asswhole employing you. They should have YOUR BACK FIRST!

I believe the beatiful thing is, if I owned a trucking company and had “tell me how I’m driving” on the outside, I would want to know what’s going on on rare occasions as needed, but in your case, put in writing exactly what happened and occurred if you are comfortable with that for documentation and memory. The company can stand with you based on your record with them and give you a warning and send her a courtesy letter apologizing if she was inconvenienced and that they spoke with you about your driving, knowing they want their drivers to make quality and safe decisions on the road. Note: In regards to your boss turning you in. Follow up on your concern abd if you think she was wong, indicate such for the record.
