What good is a degree
Hello All, My name is Sheila and I am 50. I have a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree, both in Business Administration/Management. I have put in countless resumes at career fairs and on line but have not found a job. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

At what age did you get those degrees? First point. Second you have the degree and maybe no experience so you got to sitdown I got to get something to be in the labour market first and then you start moving and looking because right now many people have degrees and are not prepared to the job, It has happened many times to me over the years working.

Put God first and just trust him and I believe you will be working and no time and the next job you apply for do it with confidence and May God bless you

Hi Sheila, the first thing I would suggest is your resume'. Making sure all of your skills are on it. Or at least the skills related to the position you are applying for. Proof read your resume', we need to understand that this paper or pieces of paper represent us to a prospective employer. In fact, have told many members of the community, on Jobcase you complete your profile, then click on generate resume'. This is what I did and the requests for interviews started coming in. Truly a professional job. Another good thing besides proof reading it yourself, is have a friend go over it with you, there could be something you left out. To make changes just add to your profile, save the info and hit generate for the finished product. This all free of charge. Probably a good idea to delete the first copy downloaded just to avoid sending wrong one. Best wishes, if anything else, don't hesitate to ask!

Place your resume on career boulder and job boards where you plan to move to.

Sheila, I was like you, a friend told me about HealthCare, and they didn't even look at my degree that I worked so hard to get. They were only interested in my work experience, my resume showed that while I was in college I worked as a healthcare aide, did my internship at a heart hospital, and a adult senior center, and now I am working as a case manager for a healthcare agency.and it pays good.

I have a BS in Eonomics & Horticulture. My experience is in Operations Management, Procurement, Process Improvement, Inventory Management, Trend Analysis /Forecasting & Customer Relations. Looking for part-time employment or full if the opportunity is to great to turn down. Currently, started a houseplant business "Crazy Momma's " which my husband works in our Tacoma shop. Retired from Boeing early to seek a different career opportunity which can put my skills to promote their business. Thank you

I completely understand your frustration. I am going through something similar. My advice is try and identify the individual who has access to the decision maker. This person will be able to get your resume into the right hands and may even preview it before submission. This may result in them giving some feedback which will help separate you from the pack.

I have a lot of work experience..well nix that I've stayed on the jobs I've had nothing short of 5 years I've always been promoted.. I say lean heavily on your work experience not your education trust and believe they will hire some experienced over some one with a degree because they can pay them a little less for the same exact performance

I DON'T THINK IT'S ALL ABOUT THE DEGREE OR MASTERS IT'S ABOUT YOU WRITING YOUR OWN TICKET. LIKE A RELIABLE SOURCE ONCE TOLD ME "IF YOU CAN'T FIND OR GET HIRED FOR A SPECIFIC POSITION"; "CREATE YOUR OWN POSITION"! WHEN YOU GO ON INTERVIEWS OR APPROACH A REPRESENTATIVE AT THESE JOB FAIRS. STEP TO THEM LIKE YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT THE POSITION ENTAILS. AND IF YOU DON'T KNOW THROW SOME KNOWLEDGE THEIR WAY. THEY CANNOT EVEN KNOW THE THINGS THAT YOU TACKLED DURING YOUR EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE. SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO THINK IN STREET TERMS. GOOD LUCK!
Congrats on both the Bachelors and Masters! Take look at government positions. Even look at Hospital Administration. International Banking may be an option as well. Career Fairs are tuff and sometime resumes get lost in the shuffle. Look at the Utilities too. Experience is key. Ten years we were told to go to school get a BS / MS because that was the key the future. A degree helps you get in the door and shows the employer that you have achieved higher learning. Things have changed and fast! Now it is coding, technology, science and medicine. The main thing is not to get discourage. Your self worth is very important. Knowing that you can and add value to the right organization will happen. There are several factors, the economy, and competition. I know its frustrating but take a look at other fields that might interest you. If you have the patience of "JOB" try teaching on the college level, online ! This will allow you to work in the evening and look for opportunity during the day. The key don't stop learning. You have to keep re-inventing yourself.
