Frustrating job search or lack thereof

Good morning everyone. I am not here to seek adivce. I am basically here to vent about my frustrating job search to replace the job I lost in October. I see many of you in this room have experienced the same thing so you all know where I am coming from. Long story short I am a tractor trailer driver and because of an accidental fuel spill I was terminated from my last job. The spill was the result of my leaving the pump unattended. Since then I have been applying and called in for interviews to no avail. The frustrating part is one job expressed a desire to having me come in for a road test. He told me to check my email for a date and time. I did so for almost a week and saw nothing from the company. So I called the woman in Chicago who set up the interview and she told me he emailed her telling her he hired someone else for the position. Would've been nice if he told me that don't you think? I haven't even been able to land jobs via temp agencies. Bad huh? I did take a road test with a company about three weeks ago and was told they would process my application but still haven't heard from them. Poor communication skills I'd say. Well while browsing through my email one day I ran across a bit of advice telling the reader not in so many words to explore new horizons. Try entrepreneurship or returning to school. I took this and my poor job search as a sign saying perhaps I should end my 15 year tenure as a tractor trailer driver and try something else. Well I did. I use my car to drive for Uber and its great. I make my own hours and make good money. Plus I' m seeking to do my passion of cartooning. I have a degree in fine arts and theatre and will be going back to school shortly to get a higher degree. Plus I am going to give at the disagreement of a friend home based business a try. Hey what have I got to lose by trying huh? Just wanted to share that the job search was like trying to catch fish without bait but all was not lost for me and all is not lost for you. There are several ways you can pay your bills. You just can't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.

Awesome testimony Tony. I know exactly what you mean about not hearing from prospective employers. It's disappointing to not hear from an employer when you feel you are qualified for the position. But I am am glad you decided not to give up but took a chance and chose to make a change that was best for you. I left my well paying job, that I hated and against the advise of others, for a piece of mind. I tried the temp jobs for a while but they were just that, temporary. So now I too am an Uber driver and I love it. I make my own hours and now have time to spend with my family. When needed, I go back to temping and that works for me. Good luck with your continuing education and thanks again for sharing.
