Interview stand in
I have been on 5 interviews in the last couple weeks. And everyone of them had interviewed 6 or less people. It seems like they just interview me so they can say they interviewed a veteran and they give the job to someone they know with less experience. Just would like to know if this is a current practice with HR or hiring managers? Because in the interviews they tell me I am very qualified for the position and give it to someone less qualified . Have some Integrity..

Apply for the jobs that want you to have more experience than you do, for example bachlor degrees, 3-5 year on job etc.... see what happens then. See then your applying for jobs you don't have too much experience. I once was told we will call you and I said call me to say I have the job or good luck in my job search we found someone with more credentials. Do me a favor don't call as I have another offer I was job shopping and my credentials are just too much for this position and I am worth more pay! Never settle for less than you think your worth. There is a job career out there for you and it will come. If you have to work a low pay job until you land that job then do so. Those people know who they will hire by the time you leave.the interview. I personally despise, " Oh we will call you" it is bs. Thats when I want to say,"I thought I would be a perfect fit but come to think of it I have way too much experience!" I know at that point I bombed the interview and or they are just screening with no intention to hire. Ive been on interviews where I know I was a great fit as well; Cheer up don't be discouraged, you will find a job and one your happy at.

Veterans deserve VIP consideration, attention and special job openings, specially if you are qualified. They have been the backbone defense of this Nation. You should have a team of Lawyers from Veterans or retired. Veterans to work with you in this as in many other cases.Fight back as you have fought for this Nation. You should be treated with respect honesty integrity and open criteria.Tell your Lawyer what you think because it sounds like prejudiced judgement, , because you are a Veteran ,nepotism too hiring a key person allready chosen, selected and approved.

I don't think that It is standard practice. I think that they are interested in you, and that maybe a little something is off in the interview.

They are looking for more than being qualified, they also looking for a good fit.

Hi Donald - Know the feeling. I also am an Army Vet and I started experiencing this back in the late 70's. It appears it hasn't changed. I just suspect that as most HR people or hiring managers have very little contact with Vets, they like to meet them in person. That's just my thinking. Could be wrong, but being a female Vet, honorable discharge after 7 years, hasn't done me any good. The Vet Rep at EDD was never much help either but I would give them a shot. Each EDD Office has a Vet Rep that is there ONLY FOR VETS. I would also go online to any veterans site and see what job fairs are coming to your area. It's worth the time as it 's not just for jobs but training and benefits.
It's a proud badge. Don't give up. You've had interviews which means you definitely have the skill-set for the positions you're applying to. Believe in what you have to offer and yourself...it will come. And, as to all my fellow-Vets...Thank you all for your service.

Don't give up, your day will come, sometimes when jobs say someone is qualified sometimes they realize overqualified and you would wonder how overqualified will hurt the employer, well yes it is the pay scale. Even though it is like give the Interviewer a chance and make a offer; wish jobs would try to negotiate instead of thinking overqualified. It is frustrating when they say your qualified and make you think you are going to get job. They should say your qualified but their is other applicants that we need to review and go from their and let you know. Good luck future endeavors.

Are you just fresh out of the Military?

Ask and you shall receive look to the sky and keep your faith always don't let a few jobs keep you from a bright future that's ahead of you keep pushing forward may God bless you I hope this helps

If for instance you were not a veteran and the results were the same, how would you conclude it then. My point is no one has to know i have received many positions with checking that im un protected veteran, knowing that everyone interviewing me knows very well that I am jn some cases. The situation is perception. The employer has no say in your veteran staus anyway, a often becomes their only tool against it, which is eliminating it, you can as well
Apply @ Boeing They proactively hire veterans
