Long break in emloyment
I was diagnosed with MS in 2010. I have been out of work since that time. I am now healthy enough to work at least part time, possibly full time depending on the particular job. How do I explain my long leave of absence from the workforce?

Be truthful explain your situation.Good luck.

Hi. Nice to have you back, best of luck to you Dan.

Address you are a survivor and an researcher to seek how to cure MS as well as learn = educate how to be cured or survive and thrive with your disability/abilities with MS. You can also say you volunteer to be an Advisor, Mentor, Service Provider/Assistant and so on. You can be an model of an ad for MS success stories. Thanks for your question Dorothea Bowers.

Hello Dorothea Bowers! I was diagnosed with an 9mm Aneurysm as two in one from out of four statistically. Very rare and uncommon. I made the fifth statists. I am also seeking part-time work at home and only have been volunteering my quality time, either as an Volunteer Teacher's Aide to an Transporter of family members, friends, and clients. You can explain that you volunteer to seek ways to cure your MS by research and grants apply with your educational needs to survive. Thanks for your question. By Pamela DeMuynck

Just tell them you were sick being honest is best

Honestly, just tell them you were sick and unable to Work

Hi Dorothea,
I also had a break in employment for health reasons. The first thing that I would suggest is that you find a volunteer job or two. Part time is okay. I say this because you need to start going into "work" regularly. You will test your ability to work and you'll get a current reference or two. Ideally try to do the kind of work you want to do in a job, in other words, if you plan on doing office work, try to do office work in your job.
Once you have a couple of months volunteering, you can sign up with some temp agencies. They do sometimes have part time jobs.
Take advantage of your state's disability career assistance. I got job counseling and interview clothes from mine.

Wat is MS

Explain to employer that you had an illness and it's now managed. They are understandable, and if not, then they're not worth working for anyhow.
Dear Dorothea, I have a chronic illness. I have never had to stop working but I will tell you when I first talked to employers mentioning this it was an immediate door closer. I would keep to the advice of saying the minimum. Stick to your strengths etc. Good luck. Stay positive and optimistic.
