5 weeks!

I applied for a job, was called in took the drug test and completed the paperwork they asked and accepted the job offer. I applied for this job 5 weeks ago and I still have not started the job. They keep saying they their working on finalizing the start date. How long does it really take?! Seriously...

Keith - Keep following up. When you call, make a point of the date, time, individual and what their response was. IF you have to call again, you can say "On Tuesday May 2nd at 10:15am, I spoke with Ms. Bradberry in HR who said it would be approximately 2 additional weeks (key word to listen for is "approximately"). Today is May 10 and I am calling in to get an update". In this way, you are telling them "I'm on my game where you're not". If they do not give you specifics (such as "another weeks or so"), call back in a week of few days. Best of luck.

Hi, Keith. Right? It's a job to get a job! My strategy is to give the prospective employer one week before I politely call and ask about the status of my application. To keep track of this, I mark it in my hard copy planner (old school but it works for me). I also use a 99 cent spiral notebook to log all phone calls to all prospective employers. I include the date, time, name of employer, and importantly the NAME of who I spoke to. That helps when I call back one week later and repeat my question, "I spoke to your representative, Anna, last Friday on April 28th about the status of my application. Anna said to call back in a week. I am following up as requested by Anna. May I ask, what is the status of my application?" Then be sure to write down the date, time, and NAME of who you spoke to a week later. Is this a pain? Absolutely. It's also a great way to evaluate whether you want to work for any employer who can't respond on a timely basis to your well documented inquiries. No pain, no gain!

On this one you need to be bold but very professional and polite I would speak to the person in charge of HR tell them that you've been waiting for 5 weeks you understand their protocol but you need a job and you would love to work for them and that you thought you had a real hard yes you're going to be working for our company just ask them straight forward saying I don't mean to sound rude at all but I need an answer because I need a job and I need to make money and I need to be with a company that will back me up and stay with me because I look at this company as working with it for as long as I can and for this company to be apart of my family can you please help me with this thank you

On the norm when an organization makes an offer, you will be mailed a letter and/or given a letter in person that needs to be signed by you excepting the offer $$$$ for employment. I would suggest calling the Human Resources Dept. to discuss your anticipated employment and start date. Good Luck!

Keith I know how you feel, my husband applied for a job as well and was offered the position. He took the drug test and filled out all the paperwork for his background check and as of tomorrow 05/01/17 it will be 3 weeks and he still has not received a call to start orientation. Oh I'm sorry I need to add that he did pass his drug test and background check and was called within 3 days of taking the drug test and the company doing his background check and he was told he would be called in about a week to start orientation. He has called and talked to the the manager and he keeps saying oh we haven't forgotten you we'll be calling you don't worry. This is a very large company so it makes me kind of leery that if they're this slow at getting things going how slow is it going to be once he starts there to move up within the company. He is starting at the bottom with this company when he has been in a management position all of his career but unfortunately was terminated after 23 years with the same company and 2 years shy of being totally vested in his retirement. Nobody is hiring in his field it's all gone to independent territory managers, it's changed so much out there and he is definitely over qualified for the position but was told that he could definitely move up quickly and there would be a couple positions opening up in the next couple of months for 2 different management/ team lead positions. I'm hoping this is no indication of how slow moving this company is. :( Anyway hang in the Keith Neemann I think they are just slow moving and they don't have all their ducks in a row yet but keep looking just in case it can't hurt anything right?

It may take any where from a two months to a month for this to happen. My test took about two months to get back the results and the background information check on it. Just beginning to call and ask questions to them to follow up on your test.

It's frustrating but I would keep looking while staying available, love yourself you are much better than that and worth more than getting disappointed with a hope that might or might not happen...Most times it will pull one self esteem down, so be open keep looking you might end up with something much better...and you'll feel better doing this too. If this door closes you'll have others that well open...You are worth much more than a WAIT

Keith, congrats! Did you search that company on Glassdoor, Linkedin, or check with the BBB? I was hired at one time for a healthcare position--got the call back that I was hired within 3 days of interview, and I've been with them for 7 years. I think that the company is jerking you around. Give them a call, and inquire about your job status. Until you are officially hired (filled out paperwork, and such), keep looking! Good luck!
