Business closing and feeling very discouraged...

I worked for at a fitness center through college and eventually became the manager. The center has steadily been declining during the 3 years I have worked there. My communication with my boss has always been terrible. He lies to employees, doesn't communications, doesn't pay the bills so I'm left with the aftermath. In the past 6 months, we've received eviction notices and other court documents to which he didn't address. This in itself left me wanting to leave the business. I was informed last week that the fitness center would be closing in two weeks because it had been sold and will open as a new facility. The owner told me that there might be a position for me in the new company. I think he's lying to me because when new companies come in they bring their own team. I have no desire to stay in the location or accept a lower paying position with the new company. I have been applying to jobs but have only had a few interviews that didn't end up how I wanted. I thought that have already managed an entire facility at such a young age that there would be more jobs out there for me but I guess not. I'm feeling really discouraged.

Natalie, I agree with Ryan. Don't stay where you don't feel comfortable. There are more gyms popping up everywhere. Up date your resume. Google gyms in your area and call them and set up an interview. Go in person, smile and don't diss your former boss. Chances are this new person will already know what his dealings are. Chin up and smile. You will find what you are looking for soon. Best of luck, Lisa Renwick

Natalie don't fill bad I've worked at a company for the last nine years. They tell me when I'm about to make it my tenth year at the company that the building was being sold and that all it's employees including me had to look for work elsewhere. At times i get depressed but i thank god every day that i have my health and i just. Keep looking. Signed don't get discouraged.

Natalie.... Most important! Ask your boss to write a recommendations letter for you, stating all you achived during your three year period. Ex......Natalie started out as and within ........became manager. Make sure it states you had nothing to do with the facilities closing. Companies are looking for students right out of collage and with your resume and letter of recommendation, you young lady will have no problem getting a job and fast. Good luck! Keep us updated.

Natalie, DO NOT feel discouraged. When you meet the new owner, be assertive but respectful, and make your case in a bold way as to why you should be the one running the show. Don't bad mouth the old owner, but spell out the problems that came about when he was the owner. Do this in a business like way, without emotion. But show the emotion and passion when you begin to speak about fitness and how you are the best choice to run the gym. And your right about being so young, but was given the management reigns . You have a management position on your resume and this is very good!

Hey Natalie, You’ve been able to power through what sounds like an extremely challenging situation over the years at work. I’m sure you developed problem solving and management skills that normally take people a lifetime to realize so don’t lose confidence in your ability to shine in another job opportunity. If you like the business then explore if there’s a realistic job offer for you with the new company and if not then move on. Articulating what you’ve been able to accomplish there on your resume is the key. Start working on a plan B immediately if things don’t work out with the incoming company/management and get to work on your job searching tools. Make sure you get written letters of recommendation from your current boss and start testing the job market as soon as possible. Get ready to Move On!
