Your SS# and Unemployment benefits
The claimant reported she had worked more than her unemployment forms were showing. When checking her SS#, we saw that the number was incorrect for a long period. This means she was denied benefits due to not having sufficient wages in calendar quarters. The SS Office had to "unscramble" the wage credits and then join all her wages together. Not only did this cause the claimant more delay and frustration, but can you imagine if the person whose SS was being used, had also filed a claim? Yes, it happens. My advice: Always check your pay stubs - they should have your SS# shown. In my claimant's case, the problem started when the bookkeeper changed books and wrote down the wrong SS#. Glad it was caught before she filed for SS benefits.

Lin, One can never be to safe in guarding your personal information. I had what I thought was a good friend use my SS#And it caused me a lot of problems. Don't let anyone friend or not have your personal information. There is an ole saying .Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Always beware and be safe. People can open credit cards etc with your SS#
