How do I get my foot into the door
I am currently going to school for My Health Service Administration BA degree I am loving my online courses but I'm starting to feel that I went to school for the wrong degree it is hard for me to get my foot into the door for my career. No one wants to hire me because I do not have any experience in my degree, and my degree does not need any internship any ideas of where I should start? My motivation is strong because I have 4 kids to take care of.

Just an idea .. but our hospital has a strong volunteers program. You may want to find a local Hospital and check out volunteering. I know some volunteers have been assigned to with with administrative staff. Even if it is escorting patients out of the hospital, you will meet people within the organization; just be yourself and talk to them. Flash that beautiful smile and be positive. Good luck!

Is it a hospital position? if so you may want to network through your personal physician, or maybe they can give you a name of a person that can help you in the hospital.

What state you're in? Have you try to create a profile in LinkedIn?

Hey Christel - first off, congratulations on pursuing your BA degree, and with four kids as well. That's very impressive and you should be proud! Getting your foot in the door is one of the hardest, and most confusing parts of the job search. I have a couple recommendations. First, you may want to reach out to your school's career help center, if they have one. Often times they can help make introductions to folks in your field, as well as alumni who can get you connected to the Healthcare community. Another idea would be to "interview" someone who is in the field you want to be in, to see what path they took and how they were able to get a foot in the door. This can be casual, just grabbing a coffee, and can also help you think about what your ideal job might look like in Health Service Administration. It looks like you posted this a little while ago, so I hope some of these ideas help, and that you're doing well on your education path!

Hi, I went for the same thing, graduated last month and have two internships experiences in health admin. I’ve applied to over 50 jobs and nothing. I actually started applying before I even finished school and nothing

Have you thought about either volunteering or temping? Those are both good ways to start building experience in your field, which would make it easier for you to get hired.
I would be talking with my Academic Adviser to help me in landing a job before I graduate or shortly after. The Health Services Degree, is a broad one, I would look at narrowing things down find an area to focus your job search on, there are jobs you can apply for in hospitals, clinics etc., the main goal is finding employment. You've not picked the wrong degree, you just have to know how to make it work for you. You may have to work a job or two to get the experience that will help you get into management etc., and fully utilize your degree. And talk to the Academic Adviser - all the best!
