End of The Line

So, I am one of those 'older folks' who worked for a large corporation for nearly 20 years only to be cut due to downsizing. Since this happened a few years back I have been through two other downsizing's at companies, I worked at one for a year and another less than 6 months. I've been passed over so many times for jobs, losing out to younger folk it's ridiculous. You mention to someone you think age plays a factor and they look at you like you are crazy. The only jobs at least 6 people in my field are doing now are Uber and Lyft. These were TV Weathermen, Anchors, Producers. I'm not knocking Uber but I didn't spend over 30 years bustin' butt to be a taxi driver. And, the jobs I do finally talk to people about, are only paying about $40K. If our economy is reportedly so great, why are there so many people aged 45-62 out of work or driving vehicles for a living? I don't want this to get political, I'm just curious if this is a National or Regional trend. What say ye?

Same situation happened to me. So I understand exactly how you feel. It is tough. It took me a long time to accept the situation.

automation, robotics, self driving vehicles (including big trucks and trains), kiosk, Etc... I could keep going but just look around tech is becoming a lot cheaper than paying a humans. Hope I am wrong but the end of the story is not always good

Hello Derik, age discrimination is something we have to deal with but hopefully President Trump will win in 2020 so we can continue to reap the benefits of a strong economy, God bless you

Hi Derik Lattig I am so sorry that happened. Unfortunately, downsizing is quite common and can happen to those who are newly hired or have been there for 20+ years. I have heard of both scenarios happening! My advice is to update your resume and [age proof it] (https://www.topresume.com/career-advice/age-proof-resume-tips) before you apply. Also, ensure it has the right keywords so it isn't eliminated by the [applicant tracking system] (https://www.jobcase.com/conversations/596c18f2-664b-5584-816e-ef1860520181?from=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.jobcase.com%252Fcommunity). Pick yourself back up and go for it!! Also, don't be afraid to apply for jobs that are outside what you did as well if the skills are similar. You can do this!
