Why is it that the background check says they only go back 3 to 5 years some even 10 year out as I am haunted from a background that still comes up from 21 years ago and Is holding back from many jobs not be able to get a finger print clearance card as I have gone through the set aide judgment form which is a joke and now going through a good cause form and last step is a non-refundable 1900.00 to get the Governor to pardon it. I just want to be treated equal to get a job why does the government do anything else to clear records from the past that hold them from a career ..Heres something and is proof that people have changed 3,5, 10 years ago or in my life 21 years ago how are we suppose to move forward from our past mistake if the government hold them against us .

it all depends on the employer. but your criminal record check goes back to the year you turned 18. if your employer only cares about the last 5 years or 7, that’s up to them.
i totally understand your point though. we all make mistakes and despite how hard up people are for good employees, they still want perfect individuals.

Contact Lexis Nexus that’s the company that does the background checks for almost all companies. Ask them what they are reporting. I called had it resolved directly with them for an event that was expunged. I was surprised that it even came up and pissed off since it was expunged 24 years ago. They still had not updated records from the expungement. In the end they removed it and I got a confirmation letter from them. Hope that helps you and anyone else reading this.

I had something in my background from 30 years ago something they said I plead to buy there is no plea agreement or anything and I honestly did not do it , it didn’t cost me 1900.00 for a pardon however the pardon process takes over a year so I’m still waiting to hear back from our great governor of getting a date for my pardon but in the end it will be well worth it keep ur head up there’s help out there
