Frustrated and Annoyed

I have a Bachelor's degree in math and my MBA. I had a great job but was recently laid off due to restructuring. I have been in the same industry (default servicing) since I graduated. Now I am having a difficult timw finding something in my industry and applying outside of it I am either under qualified due to lack of experience or over qualified for multiple degrees. I don't even mind taking a pay cut to start over. I just want the opportunity for an interview.

Have you created anoutstanding resume?

Do you always write an impeccable cover letter?

Make sure that you Taylor these two items to the employer. That you write a fresh cover letter each time.

The quality of these two items is what you need to get you in the door and then then you can sell yourself to the HR person.

Many will disagree with me for suggesting this, but in reality it is true. When you list your degrees on your resume, it sometimes intimidates the interviewer therefor hindering your ability to get the job. Unless the job specifically requires a degree, you should not add it to your resume. I know you worked hard for them, but having a degree means nothing if you can't pay rent so remember, your goal is to get hired. After gaining employment and if a position arises within the company that does require a degree you can then disclose the degree. By that time you would have already proven yourself to be a dedicated employee. Good luck and God bless.

Part of your responsibility to yourself as a job seeker is to do research. More and more positions are being eliminated and more positions are becoming automated. There is a shift in positions and we all need to take notice and upgrade our skill set and develop a plan B. For example, I went to CVS and Home Depot and noticed that customers are being pushed used the automated process to check out. This is becoming more of a reality. This means that many people jobs are in jeopardy. Unfortunately with the changes in the economy it means that many of us have to upgrade our skill set and make career changes. Don't wait to get the axe be proactive. There was a time that showing that you have an MBA would open doors, that is not the case now. So many others have an MBA as well, what separates you from the competition? Companies are changing the way they operate, research and rebrand yourself so that you can become and remain relevant. Good Luck.

PHARMACIST

I'm sort of in the same situation because my field is extremely saturated. I've been doing part-time, prn, and contract work since 2017. I'm a pharmacist with a Bachelors and PharmD. it's ridiculous. In my down time I've been trying to get some adds put on my blog for my book, Why Every Black Woman Should Marry A Jewish Man

I can relate. I have health issues that took me from teaching. I am ready for a part time position after recovering from a stroke and still living with nerve damage pain and severe migraines. I also find that I am overqualified for most of what I apply for. I was fortunate over the last few years to have opportunities to do fundraising, model, do some commercial work. Really I was interested in doing something, anything just to not give up despite my body. I recommend thinking outside of the box. I came to realize that I needed to focus on what I was able to do. Not what I was not able to do. That is very self defeating. So if you have to even take a pay cut in a different field try it until you find a teaching position. Everywhere there are teachers looking for jobs and more funding being cut. With a math degree you should be more marketable. My sister has her doctorate in math and is a math professor but moved down south for the position and was disappointed with her initial pay. In the long run it worked out well for her. I am excited because through the use of Facebook job search I was able to find a local teaching job. It took patience, perseverance, tenacity, and an understanding that I have to be my own miracle. I will interview on a cane just thrilled to be off my walker. I love working with 3 and 4 yr olds because everything is a new learning experience. Learning to have to talk, walk, and use my right arm again gave me a better understanding of fine and gross motor skill development. I hope you are able to find something until your dream job comes along. There is no shame in literally doing any job until you get back in your field. I beat myself up for a long time and miss teaching everyday. Trust me you never know what the future holds. Get on every job search site and I wish you the best. Perhaps becoming a math professor? My sister was highly sought after when she graduated. Best wishes..

Simple. When you are applying to those jobs that you are overqualified for, don't list all those degrees. Then you won't look overqualified. If the job doesn't require those degrees, don't even mention that you have them. Leave them off your resume and job applications.

Hello well first I would say be thankful that you are well educated, and that you are well qualified for employment. But I would say be encouraged, because there is something for you to do even though it might not be in your field of expertise. Iam very confident that you will accomplish your goals, as long as you do not give up my friend. Be thankful, and be blessed.
