Dream deferred
I deferred my nursing dream till I had my children off doing their own lives. I took classes and work 1 sometimes 2 jobs. In December received my BSN in nursing passed my NCLEX the first time. All you hear is there is a nursing shortage. At 56, the only shortage I feel is no one willing to hire me or call back. I am able bodied, have worked in a warehouse for 21 years until last August and never worried about being laid off because I was almost done with school. Now I'm TERRIFIED, I worked so hard and feel so discouraged

If you live near a VA hospital they are always hiring. They also have great benefits.

Don't worry you came a long way. Trust that it will work out. Keep searching.

Don't let yourself get all worried you will find a job! You worked hard for this so don't give up. The issue could be your resume Tamra Upton If a company uses what’s called a [applicant tracking system] (https://www.thebalance.com/what-is-an-applicant-tracking-systems-ats-2061926) your resume could be slipping through the cracks.
The ATS is a program that companies use to sort through 1,000’s of resumes to find the best possible ones. If it doesn’t recognize what it needs, your resume will be cast aside and likely NEVER be seen by an actual person at that company.
To avoid being passed over, utilize [keywords] (https://www.jobscan.co/blog/top-resume-keywords-boost-resume/) in your resume. When recruiters search for them, they are looking for certain skills in your resume that match up with what THEY need.
Say for example you are applying for a job as the manager of a hotel restaurant, a recruiter may search for phrases such as “restaurant manager” and “hotel restaurant” or search for the word “hospitality.”
Recruiters are not going to search for words and phrases such as “outgoing” and “hard worker.” This is because keywords highlight your skills, not your traits.
Take some time to make a list of yours and add them to the work experience section of your profile so your resume is noticed. Not sure what skills you should add? Check [these out] (https://www.thebalancecareers.com/list-of-the-best-skills-for-resumes-2062422).
Remember to keep searching for jobs [here] (https://www.jobcase.com/jobs/search) and stay positive, you can do this!
Best of luck, Tamra. I’m an older nurse with 20+years experience in various specialties. I had to take 4 years off for health reasons. When I was ready to go back to work I sent out so many applications I stopped counting. The only responses I got were from nursing homes, one hospital and one surgery center. I got 2 offers and accepted the one I thought would be best only to get manipulated and stabbed in the back and there was no doubt it was an age thing. Age discrimination is rampant and it’s made even more aggravating by the fact that our legal system will not do a dang thing about it. Just keep on applying and applying. Hopefully you will one day get a job that lets you continue your dream. As for me, I’ve given up and left nursing.
