How can I show interviewers I'm ready for a Cook job?
#job search# advice # application

Well I don't have a book of my own recipes but this is what I did do when I was trying to get my 1st job as a cook. It was at a retirement home. I offered to demonstrate my cooking up something for them to try. They were impressed and hired me.

My first instinct is to ask you a million questions like...What kind of cook? Where? Do you have previous experience? Experience in a similar role your applying for? This is important information that i'd prefer having to provide the best advice I could. But even without all that info, the best advice is to just be yourself (lame. I know. But true.) Just let your personality shine through and show your passion for cooking and how eager you are to learn more. I always always ALWAYS do my research on the restaurant and study the menu. It shows the KM/chef your prepared and serious about the position. Never be afraid to ask questions. I like to ask questions because I'm a curious person, but also because it can showcase my knowledge at the same time. I ask about the equipment like fryers/grills and the methods/processes of cleaning at the end of the night. Then respond with "ok I've worked with automatic oil filtering machines previously" or "I've only filtered fryers with the cone n filter method from the stone age, so your method would be exciting to learn" or "i prefer to clean flat tops with pickle juice/vinegar, it works better and doesn't have the harmful chemicals of the comercial cleaning products". Plus pickle juice is free!!!

Get to job clean and professional then fine out the menu and ask questions on what they want. Or how they prepare there food and serve it.

To demonstrate that you're ready for a Cook job, highlight your relevant experience in the culinary field, showcase your cooking skills, and discuss your passion for creating delicious dishes. Consider obtaining a food safety certification to enhance your credentials. Utilize Jobcase, along with other job search platforms like Indeed and LinkedIn, to find Cook job opportunities and connect with potential employers. Good luck!
I take photos of all the food that I cook ( salad bar, hot bar, puree meals, soups, desserts etc.). I also have a book of my own recipes. I would also ask if there are recipes for particular menu items. Also you might want to briefly describe what you do as a cook. Starting with turning on your fans, ovens and ending with your cleanup and lights out.
