Notice?

Okay I am looking to quit a part time job that I hate. The only problem for me is the notice. My mother says that since its a part time job I should give a one week notice especially since I am treated unfairly at the establishment. Would a one week notice be enough?

Aubrey, REALLY????? You have posted at least three "what should I do?" Situations and I am beginning to believe that you are playing a game that you will lose. Jobcasers who offered the advice you requested are being sincere while you are getting a kick out of how many scenarios you put out there. GROW UP little girl!!!!!

Audrey !! There is no legal requirement to give notice of a voluntary termination. However, I agree with your mother only because it is consistent with professional expectations. It is also possible that leaving without notice may adversely impact on your future employment efforts. Employers do check with prior employers before making a hiring decision. Some notice is better than no notice at all. Best Wishes in your future employment.

I can't be sure about the time being appropriate, but, say you give notice - the employer can immediately "lay you off." Its not the same as being fired, but the employer has the law on his side to "adjust" your date of termination.

A good in question establishment , establishment is on ones liability therefore of ones education in the laws to the business & estate of the nation.

All on the company that you work for , two week is the formula but there for to 7 year or great 30 days to 6 months. C.O.D POWER OF JUSTICE

Latricia. I agree with you. I was just saying if that's how much notice time you have to give is better than nothing. I didn't advice her to burn her bridges.

Any notice you give would be generous on your part , especially if you are treated poorly, if you have another job to go to i would give the business owner a ear full !

You guys are telling this person to give 2 weeks, and you're not even in her shoes. What's wrong with you ? It states part time. It states being unfairly treated. It states my mother. Now a days, managers are lucky to even get couple days to new week notices. No one bother asking what type of job she works. No one asks if it's a family business. No one asks how long she's been here, etc.... be real . How would she be burning her bridges? I've had experience and seen employee's give 2 weeks and more notices, yet they're still get no rehire in their file. Don't give your options. Give facts.

Yes. It's better than not giving any. Just add in your notice that "AN opportunity" came up, and you can't miss it. I'm very positive he'll support you. As long as the manager is mature. Good luck

I agree with the majority here. Write a letter giving notice, or an email, and make sure you get a read receipt and/or copy the letter for your files. That way you have proof that you acted professionally (even if they didn't). Once I gave a two week notice. The day I turned it in the HR director said my last day would be the end of the month so they didn't have to provide me with another month of insurance. The woman said "I don't have to honor your notice." I said "Neither do I," gathered up my things, apologized to my former co-workers, and left. I explained the situation to my future employer who was able to move up my start date. My point, I guess, is that I acted responsibly, was able to prove it to my new employer, and still came out on top.

It's always best to give a two weeks notice, believe me on this because when or if you go to apply for another job, it will show that you are a very mature acting and responsible person, and also it will show that you are the better person. I understand how you feel, but it's the best thing to do. Also, when you give the notice, make sure it's in writing and if you can, get your boss to sign it and make yourself a copy just in case something comes up. Then, work your notice and leave with your head held high. You will be glad you did. Show your boss that you are the bigger person in this situation.
