Discouraged
I retire from my position for a local health department on March 31, 2017 after 34 1/2 years. I will be 56 years old in October and searching for a simple office job Mon thru Fri. Part-time. I have been applying online and no-one has called me for a interview. All the calls I get is for me to apply for additional education. I never even Mark I am interested. Right now I Just want a part-time position. I was excellent at my job a clean work record and my job evaluations were fantastic. I have worked hard in the time I was there. I worked overtime and a lot of times was not paid overtime. I have created different forms and help to make the clinic I work in progress. If someone does call me it is not what I am qualified to do or a position or told that it is for what I am qualified just to find out that I am 1. Over qualified or 2. Too old. I so frustrated. I never wanted to stop working totally. I been working since I was 12. I am sick of getting education phone calls, Lyfte Driver or Uber or warehouse.
I am at my wit ends!

I know how you feel. I lost my job in December and been n numerous interviews, but have not gotten a job yet. I think it has to do with my age. Im 59 but very experienced in the medical field.

Thank you for sharing, sounds like you and I are in the same club !

My name is Gay Crites. I totally understand your frustrations. I lost my job 12/15/16, filed for unemployment and sent resumes, applications over and over, to no avail. I just turned 61, am a Medical Social Worker and have wonderful references, and tons of experience. My unemployment ran out last week, and now my health is becoming an issue. I am also at my wits end! Since losing my job, I have been on 3 interviews, and never heard anything. I tried following up, but could not get anyone to return my calls. It sucks! After I have surgery, I'll start the process all over again. You're not alone!!

When there is an Advertisement in the Local Newspaper, anywhere else, it's seems like they sent those to Everybody, bot just anyone living, North, or south of Town, with these Job Ads, they don't explain very well, what the need, and Requirements are, base on Online, it seems the The Network Systems Automatically sent stuff in the Mail, and not even 50% is in the Qualification, sometimes you Feel like saying READ, The Profile, this is what i am Looking for, and This is about my work, We don't needs no, Cats, and Dogs, or Elephants for Tigers, Holding a Sign That says"Apply Here" if your Bored" and need work" i hard the Retirement age went up also, for anyone who is under the age of 61, People would not think they need $$$ to save for Retirement, but Today, it seems like you need $$$ even to Keep your Resume stored, even with a Letter That says works Hard. take care

I am 58. A nurse and I can no longer be lifting patients. I have been looking also for home office or telephone /internet education for medical. Always over qualified. Yes you will continue to get all the infro for additional education and uber jobs but that doesn't mean that there is not a job out there for you. I am not giving up. Can't get disability so will work until I just drop over. Hang in there. Keep applying!

I see its the times we live in where people retire to be rehired. I never thought about that when I was growing up and got my first job. Unfortunately, its so well known that it seems to be the only way to some.
Did you see if you can be rehired part time at your former job?
Have you ever thought about going into business for yourself?
When I retired in 2010 at age 42 (not waiting on SS to tell me when I can do anything), entrepreneurship was the way to true time and financial freedom. Outside of my work experience in Customer Service, HR/Payroll and my natural people skills I had no business ownership experience but I was determined.
If you are tired of waiting to be validated by some company... You can do anything you choose to.
I counsel on the possibilities of your dreams/desires/goal. We can talk if you like.

Hang in there honey, God bless.

I can relate, it is very hard to find work when you are 50 and older l am 59 and work a part time retail job l can not make my end meet, l just continue to apply for receptionist but no one is willing to give me a chance, l keep praying , l cannot get a place of my own until l do.

I know. I'm sorry. That is about what is happening to the rest of us. It is hard. Too many young things out there taking the jobs; because they are young and faster.
I to loss my job I fall and broke my wrist and arm real bad now for two years I have been looking for work tried the phone but in order to get a job
by using the phone they want you to go school take out a loan be in more debt. But GOD is GOOD All the time and he is able to keep you in all we go through HE Is GOOD I am not saying that all is well, I just see things a little different and I trust the LORD for what I need in the bible it tell,s us to try him so I did and yes he did Just what he said he would do, and for me in my house we praise the LORD and money is no PROBLEM (Isaiah 23:6) Just offering a different look on life because he is as real as you and me GOD Bless you and I pray that JESUS will shine light as you walk in faith I love you and so do JESUS I will keep you in my prayer when I talk to him. Sent to you in love A.B.
