How can I land a nurse practitioner position without experience as a nurse practitioner?
I am applying for jobs that meet my qualifications, but don't hear back. I have gotten one interview so far. The doctor was impressed with my Credentials and interview, but chose someone else. I did not have OR experience. I have had my CV reviewed by my professors and someone that specializes in writing CVs prior to graduating last year. How do I get more interviews and land a nurse practitioner?

Hey Kathryn
You are not alone. Have you found a new grad residency program for NPs? There are many of them out there for a ton of different specialities. This will ensure you don't lose your knowledge/abilities and allow you to work as an NP and gain experience. Usually pay you fairly well ( 75k) range.
This will be an on going issue going forward with new grad NPs - every school is trying to "cash" in on the NP craze and there is going to be a huge oversupply of new grads. With no formal residency program for NPs and the anemic clinical hours - no one wants to take the time to train a new grad NP. I think residencies might have to become the normal.
Good Luck!

You are either going to have to go in as an RN, prove yourself until something opens up or do some volunteer work

Hi Kathryn, Be certain that you have your qualifications; you've been trained in this field. Don't waste time. Apply for voluntary work in the field while doing a part-time job that will give you a bit of pocket money. It takes only 3-6 months to build the background you'd need to get the desired job. Treat your voluntary job as if it's real so you can get a good recommendation for future work. Good Luck.

Where do You Live? Where did You work for twelve years? I would think the facility You work for can help. FNP is suppose to be an up and coming feild. I dont get it. Best of luck. I am a nurse think of going to FNP school. Now, Im not so sure.

You might want to give some of your time. There's a bunch of ways} and that helps look good on a resume also, you can learn in a teaching hospital. I worked as a MA. and I found other things but, if that's your passion start below your value to get your foot in the door. Then watch for job postings IN the hospital every few months and work your way up! Better then being on the outside looking in. ALL the Best to you sweetie!

Applying on a website like indeed.com and putting your resume online may help you get yourself into a job that will help you get hired.

Good morning, i am a qualified medical assistant. I graduated in 2014 with honors. I just got an interview and did the procedure to possibly getting hired, i have not yet gotten an answer, i suggest that you continue to apply and keep doing what you are doing, however in your spare time volunteer your time to those who are in need. This will keep your skills up and would be a great thing to add to your resume. Be patient as this is a field that many choose to work in, and in the end the job that you get will be the very job that is right for you.

Presume have passed your state's certifying exam ? If so may wish to see if companies like CVS Minute Clinic's may have position as they hire CRNP's with focus on outpatient care. Not sure why you would need OR experience for the job u didn't get as a Family Practice NP (out patient) vs an Acute/inpatient (hospital)NP ? Also ur resume lists positions from 2008-2017 but resume narrative says RN for 12 years - 3 years missing since RN in 2005 ? Good luck in the search NP's should be in demand - perhaps the area ur looking in may have a good supply vs demand at this point ? Presume have passed your state's certifying exam ? Also confusing on resume Is st mary's and palm beach gardens same facility/division ? Was the clinic in the Dominican Republic a satellite of either facility ? If not the work experience's listed under ST. Mary's are far ranging , especially for one year 2008-09 e.g. telemetry /stroke to ob to clinic in Dominican Republic. Personally I'd get more input/feedback on the resume and crafting it to emphasize the areas being looked for in Family Practice related positions. Lastly if you are certified (a very sought after credential) then list it , if not study and sit for the exam.

Not sure where you live but try landmarkhealth.org.
Question: As a licensed NP, what is your specialty area? Is there a NP network group you can join? Everyone has to start somewhere. The first opportunity may not be the job you are looking for exactly, but important to plug yourself in and get started on your new journey. Best Wishes
