Warehouse Associate/Forklift Operator at Community food bank warehouse

So honestly, ime, the easiest and fastest way to get a warehouse gig these days (unless you wana go direct hire at one of the big boys like Amazon, which I've heard mixed reviews about) is to go through a temp service/placement agency. But if you plan on keeping the job for a while/looking for advancement, use the place the temp service places you at to learn everything you can and to pad your resume. (Particularly order pulling/inventory and cherry pickers/forklifts.) I learned on an old fashioned sit down natural gas one, but these days most places use the newer stand-up Toyota forklifts which are significantly more involved than a regular one. but having that on your resume will make you stand out. Cherry pickers as well. And also when you first get to the warehouse they'll prob stick you on the dock unloading/palletizing. Bust your ass here and make sure and keep the floor/isles clean for the guys on lifts and take every opportunity you can to ask to jump on one and learn so you can help, but wait til it's a slow day. Last thing you wana do is slow down the shop or drop a pallet of milk or something. Be confident and don't sell yourself short, but also don't say you're proficient on a lift before you're actually comfortable. Lastly most places are going to want you to train/get recertification at *their specific warehouse, so don't worry if you don't have a forklift cert. Use the "floor associate" role w a staffing/temp service to get your foot in the door and either use it as a stepping stone or if you like it, bust it your first 90 days and they'll take you on. Honestly, these days mostly what places want in entry level/forklift is just to show up every day. Lol.
