Happy Friday! I had my first interview today after being employed at the same company for 12 years. I really felt great after the interview BUT I totally forgot to mention that I have a cruise planned in March.
I sent an email thanking them for the interview, made mention of what I learned during the interview and closed with an apology about not disclosing my cruise during the interview.
I've been out of work for 3 months and I told my family that I would just forfeit, if we couldn't find someone to take my place.
I just wanted someone else's opinion on what I should or should have done - mentioned or not mention?
Thank you, Gwen

Hi Gwendolyn Camacho - I personally would not have revealed that information until later in the interview stage. I think that thanking them for the interview and their time is fine, as well as including what you learned in the interview is a fabulous idea.
To me, disclosing the cruise already means you sort of think you already got the job. I know that you didn't intend that, and only wished to be proactive and get all your cards on the table.
All in all, I think you will be fine if you are a good candidate for the job and you are a good culture fit.
I am sorry to hear that you have to search for a new job, but this is a great learning experience!! Stay following up with them, and see what happens. Depending on how good a candidate you are, this may have been a great way of letting them know beforehand of a timing issue!
I know of two people at my current company who accepted offers and but told them that they were unable to start until after a certain date due to a planned vacation. That's totally normal, and it's not unheard of for the interview process to take more than a month or two!
Best of luck, and keep us updated on how things go Gwendolyn! The community is here for you!
