not hopeful

age discrimination exists, especially for those seeking a new career. Getting a job in which you possess the hard skills required is not as difficult as entering a new field in which your hard skill are not transferable. Soft skills and the attributes of maturity -- reliability, the interpersonal know-how and general wherewithal that experience provides, stability - - are not as important as one is told. Less euphemistically, the attributes of a age are specious, a fictional story told to those over 50 to give them hope, to make them feel good, to alleviate the pain of frequent rejection with promise that is non-existent.

mitchell are you going through that yourself?

I remember when my mother was laid off and trying to pursue a new career path and she went through all of that herself.

she said it was the hardest thing she's ever had to do, and she took every minute of every day to keep trying.

she also said that just knowing the right person was what ultimately got her a job and that it's important to know people.

have you tried getting involved in a meetup group for jobseekers or anything?

there are meetup groups for everything these days. https://www.meetup.com/nycjobseekers/
