I'm really puzzeled, I moved to a small town in Illinois from Florida since I'm still in school and have 2 little ones I decided to apply for a local job in a grocery store I know that is not rockets science, but each time I apply I get a notice that they went with another a suited condidat. I have a retail expirience and I worked as a receptionist at five star hotel. At this point I don't know is it my name because it not western or the manager has preference on the hiring I'm thinking about writing to cooperate and see why I don't get at least a shot at the job. Please any impute in the matter.

Bouchra, Finding a job or becoming self employed takes time. Time is on your asset. Put it to good use everyday and keep your chin up. Potential employers can sense if you are in need. Leave your needs at home and bring only your skills to the marketplace. Best of luck.

Hi Bouchra, I don't think it has anything to do with your name. You might be overqualified for the specific job you're applying for. Grocery stores have different departments that require certain skills. Does your resume match any of the specific job requirements on the job description? Look it over again, update if necessary, then re-apply.

Hey Bouchra: I think you're on the right track towards getting the job you want. I think it's a good idea to prioritize following up on your applications. Since so many apps are done online these days, you need a little extra "oomph" to stand out to employers. Sometimes it's the person who picks up the phone and calls is the one to get the job.
