If you’ve recently been let go from a job it can make you feel angry, confused, and unsure of what to do next. You may have seen the term "at-will" thrown around and you aren't even quite sure what that is. Let’s take a look!
• What does “at-will” mean? If you work for a company and you are considered an “at-will” employee, this means you can be dismissed by an employer for any reason without having to establish "just cause" for termination and without warning. This is as long as the reason is not illegal (such as discrimination).
• How do I know if I am at-will? Many job applicants and new employees are asked to sign a written statement agreeing that they are (or will be) employed at will. This statement may appear in an employment application, contract or offer letter that the employer asks you to sign and return, an acknowledgment form for an employee handbook, or elsewhere.
• Is my state at-will? While all states recognize at-will employment some states place limitations on it. These limitations are in addition to the ones that federal laws apply to all states. Here's the breakdown of states that have at-will exceptions [HERE] (http://www.ncsl.org/research/labor-and-employment/at-will-employment-exceptions-by-state.aspx).
• Now what? Check out Matt Bornhorst 's post **[HERE] (https://www.jobcase.com/conversations/a8a4881a-95be-59b1-ba56-06a1baeac048)**about the next steps to take! If you feel you have been discriminated against and the conditions of the termination are illegal, be sure to contact a legal representative.
Stay strong, you will move past this and onto something wonderful!

Washington State's state law states that you can be terminated for any reason the state of Washington don't need just cause only reason they can't fire is for sex discrimination or age discrimination

ya I was placed on a 30 day leave of absence due to the hardship of my mother s death whe I came back they terminated me for not calling in everyday

Practically any private employer can get rid of you at any point in time saying they are downsizing....

That's the #1 problem of At Will Employmemt! Refer to your What Does At-Will Mean paragraph! With At Will it offers the chance for the employer to terminate for any reason, for not liking your attitude one day. How can anyone prove that their termination was because of illegal acts and not just for the At Will? That's asinine. I would love for someone to explain how an employer wouldn't be able to terminate your employment due to an illegal reason (like discrimination) and use At Will as the reason? And then, if the answer is by any means logical (meaning someone could prove discrimination without any willing witnesses to testify) then I'll let you get my job back!

I was run over by a truck and the co I was with fired me next day and told me to find my own way home of 2000 miles cost me 800.00 not rite what you think

basically it’s imposdible to prove age discrimation in New Jersey. Is that correct. What about filing complaint

I left a job for this employer. I was hired to develop the traiing program but was tasked w supervising 3 departments and developing them. A year later after being subjected to a very hostile work environment. I was terminated for breach of confidentiality. Based on h eresay from disgruntled employees I was forced to discipline.

Hi Sherry! I seen your plight and what they did is surely not in the employee's or company"s hand books. First of all you cannot be fired because of an injury or illness and if is the case you need to get your doctor's report of your diagnosis. And if they did fire you because of an illness it's time to get the "EEOC and The Dept of Labor"! Believe me because I had a couple of experiences with illnesses and kept my job(s)!

They let me go due to health issues. My job included transporting clients. I was told by my doctor. No driving and I need a office type job. They fired me . is this a form of unfairness? I really started liking the ppl.
I was resign and moving to Arkansas
