Will I have to reimburse the company for technical training if I leave?
The company paid for some Microsoft office courses as part of my new hire training but I’m thinking about resigning for a better job opportunity. Can the company charge me for the technical training?

Did you sign a contract with them outlining any responsibilities you had for repaying for the course? From an HR perspective, they have a decision to make. One, if you signed a contract, then they have a justified reason for going after you. Two, if there is no contract and you are an at will employee, their case is weak. Three, is it worth the cost and time to try to get the money spent from you. If you took a basic course in Word, Excel or PowerPoint, probably not. If you took an advance class which cost them a bundle, then they may try. From my experience if they can take the money out of your paycheck, then they may do so, if they cannot take the pay from your paycheck, the possibility of getting repaid is very slim.

I think it depends on the company, and you should ask the HR department, or whoever is your boss.
But even if they make you reimburse you, don't let this prevent you from leaving if you've found a better job.

That's a good question, Marcus! Check your contract to see if they mention anything about it. If not, you're good to go, but the moral thing might be to pay them back if you can. Anyone else have any advice?
I've never heard of a company back charging employees fro training but I would check with the Human Resources Department before you submit you're resignation.
