Day 10. Follow up on application.
OK, I have an issue following up on applications. I am a phlebotomist with 26 years experience. I've been sending out resume upon resume and can't even get a decent response from anyone. I realize recruiters are busy but come on. I apply at a lot of hospitals and labs but cannot seem to find a real person to talk to. Some places are national and I've tried calling. Its usually someone manning the phones at HR. I have had some great interviews and actually thought I would get the job but weeks later nothing. It is getting quite depressing to even send out resumes. We are supposed to be professional but they don't care one way or another. How can I follow up if nobody will call back? I am 54 years old. Do you think my age is a problem?

I have been putting in applications for over 5 weeks and did not get any calls

I have been doing that for along time and I'm not getting a call back yet

Your age is surely not the problem. I've found that most people will volunteer with a facility such as the ones you've applied too. Don't worry!!! I'm 61 years old and started a new job working in a rehab & corrections facility, But: they new about me from working with clients on another floor. Don't give up; just Pray a little more. Raymond.

Mrs Deeb i've mentioned this before nowadays there could be age discrimination. Myself recently turned 50 I understand here's my attitude i'm not going to let society tell me what I'm capable of at any age. Wheather I'm 20 years old or 50yrs old reason for this is I know my valve and worth What i could contribute to any organization. If given the chance never settle for empty responses or nooos. The key to success is consistency Without fail even in your moment of frustration and disappointment it comes with the territory of success right now you're at war, you're in a race. The question is will you win the battle and finish the race? The world says you won't what does your heart say? In other words do not ever give up no matter what. You have a purpose it's your duty to for fill it here's a Philosophy to go by if the front door shuts in your face come in through the back,if the back door shuts, come through the window, if the window is close, come through the ceiling, if you can't come through the ceiling, come through the floor.Get it! God bless you on your journey.:)

Hi Darlene, I certainly feel your pain. I am currently in the market and have been experiencing the same challenges you face, while I am not 54 I do have a lot of experience, which is easily gleaned with just a glance at my resume. I have had a mix of responses where some HR personnel have been very forthcoming, and others have not. I should point out that I am in the healthcare/academic industry as well. The bottom line I am hoping this will soon turn around. I haven't found the answer, so all that I can suggest is to keep your spirits up and look forward to 2017 being the year of change.

Hi Darlene, Wow! 26 years in the same field? That's phenomenal! How about networking? Certainly after so many years there must be people in your field or related fields you know. It's been my experience that the best way to land a job is through someone you know...not always what you know but who. How about attending field related seminars. Get a LinkedIn acct. use Facebook and various other social media to your advantage. Just a suggestion. Best of luck! Oh and by the way...I don't think it's your age.

Don't know if it's your age, but good luck on the job hunt. Be confident, assertive and have faith.

I do think age is the problem

I don't think it's your age but if you do have a concern, take some of your early experience off your resume & just stick to your last 10 years. Most recruiting is a done via email these days and sometimes it is hard to find anyone to follow up with. I would try 3:00 & later to call if you have a phone number. Make sure you go out of your way to leave a professional message. A recruiter will not forget a poorly worded message!
not only your age is a problem,it would hurt if you knew someone where you applied to give you a good recommendation
