Trying to find my place.
I'm 27 years old and I've worked at Home Depot for almost 3 years as garden and paint associate, I liked working outside and being around the plants soaking in the sunshine and working hard breaking a sweat. But the management sucked so I became a plumber helper for four months then they fired me because they didn't want to teach me, then I helped a small business remodel a horse trailer into a shaved ice stand. Now I do help desk I.T. and I have no clue what I'm doing, I'm not being trained right so I can't do my job so I feel humiliated and frustrated. I forgot my question. I want to go back to school but I don't what I want to do.
Good, are you in a place/position for upward mobility are there classes you can take on your own. (What makes a great sales person, how do you manage customer care stuff like that). You can always go on line for additional information and skill level. Are you paying attention to small details and how is your learning curve. Sometimes an employer will recognize the talent, growth to be successful before we do. Now what you learn it will always be with you, things do change there's nothing wrong with is but keep your learning curve "Your learning Curve".
Join the military, I call our I.T a lot, and what pisses me off the most is a tech with the same level of experience as I. If you are an I.T for a specific product, always pull out the sop for that product, step by step wins the race, don't go "I think you should do this", go "this is what you do first" and so on a ND on. May look challengin but you can always look it up on the Web or your sop. Good luck, and while you are doing that. Look for something you are passionate about, before giving up there
Do you want to go to school for trades - Master Plumber something in this area. Maybe, just check it out? See what whats' out there. Also there are tech schools that have all this stuff, call just do some research.
In some ways what you've been doing was good. Now that you've tried a few different jobs think about what you liked and disliked with each. For instance, it sounds like your favorite was working in the gardening department. If that's true, perhaps you could get a master gardening certificate? (I'm not sure what the requirements are, so you'd need to check on that.) In the meantime, you could look for work with a landscaper, gardening supply company, or something similar. You could also go to a career counseling center in your area for other ideas. If you have a good school that you're interested in going to, you could go check out their career counseling center.
...you could Always go Back to de job you liked Best---Home Depot....this time, however, pay attention to what they want in Management--and become a Boss, yourself....if they require schooling, see if they will pay for it...I know my old company did that fer me---all I had to do is get a ' C ' or above grade---they Paid 100% tuition....then things changed, tuition had to be claimed on yer Taxes....and they paid 100% Only if you achieved an ' A ' grade...nevertheless, as long as ya kept Focused & yer Nose to de Grindstone--was Still a Great Deal.....but remember---when you do, indeed, become a Boss---it'sa NOT as Easy as ya might think...so all this talk about how management Sucks will come Back and Bite yur lil' Arse.....not to mention 27 year olds who think they know it all...what goes Around, Comes Around.....
