Overcome Shyness through Exposure!!

I love designing clothes! Give me some fabric, a sewing machine, a mannequin and my creativity is at work. I have watched my friends and family model my work at weddings, celebrations, and family gatherings. This is great, but I extremely shy speaking to people about what I do. I stare off in space when I speak, and I begin to stutter when I make eye contact. I would love to attend a showcase where I can network with other vendors to get my brand exposure, but I'm afraid to be the center of attention, what should I do?

Hi Rosalie, Just breath and relax. The first time on your own as a entrepreneur is always uncomfortable at first. Try practicing in front of family and friends. Have them ask questions, especially hard ones so you're prepared. Best of Luck

Hello Rosalie, Take a leap and go for it! If you have a portfolio or examples of clothes you have created bring it to the showcase. Have those vendors feel and physically see your work.

Hi Rosalie, Bring a friend along with you! Networking can be intimidating for EVERYONE, so bringing along a business partner, or a friend who is wearing your clothes, can be a really great way to break the ice and talk with some people. What better way to showcase your work, than to have someone with you who is wearing it? As with everything, practicing makes it easier, and eventually, you'll start to feel comfortable rocking these events on your own!

Don't worry about it! Let your work show for itself. When you put your heart and soul into your work, people will want to partner up with you.
