HR SPECIALIST

I’m like a FINE WINE!!!! Hired at 68!

I don’t care that I’m 68 years old…..I'm like a fine wine! I get BETTER with age!! I believe I was facing age discrimination in my job search for the last year or so until I realized that I was half the problem!

I wasn’t staying positive and coming to interviews prepared to show them that I am just as able to complete the job as someone half my age. One tip I do have that I would like to share with you all is to UPDATE YOUR RESUME!

Take off all jobs that are irrelevant and might showcase how old you are. If it is more than 10-12 years old, take it off! Don’t include dates for graduations and any certifications you earned. You don’t want to take any chances of getting your resume tossed before they even see you! Be sure to remove these dates from social media profiles as well.

I just landed a job as an HR specialist at 68 years young!! I showed up with positive energy and mindset. My interviewer asked me questions about my skills and I used examples to show her my expertise and demonstrated my excitement to learn!

Best wishes to all my fellow fine glasses of wine!!

That's AWESOME! I took 17 years off my resume. It hasn't made any difference for me in my profession with employers. I'm a graphic designer. They just LOVE to hire 20-somethings at a much lower rate. Sooo...I just went back into business for myself! My clients don't care how old I am, just as long as they get good work! As it turns out, it's been working out, so the heck with those cheapskates! LOL!

Maybe you are off the luckiest ones. It's only a lower percent hire at certain age

Felicitations, good advice and best wishes. But, why should we need to hide/camouflage our age? Why should that benefit an applicant? We and our parents laid the foundation and reared the generation who now reject us. Why should age matter if job ability exists?.......Tell you why.....because the mature are last choice only because of age and it's called.......age discrimination.

I totally agree with what you're saying and you make a very good cause but what I can say is sometimes it has nothing to do with the person how they look what skills they have how wonderful they are anything like that there is truly age discrimination in the in the United States and it needs to end it's an unspoken truth but I agree with you as we age we get better

Additionally, no matter what you hear elsewhere, not every company checks social media for every position.

I am curious as to how you know for a fact you were facing age discrimination too.

Additionally, it has long been a "rule" to only include the past decade on your resume so I am not sure why you would think that information was valuable. Removing irrelevant jobs might sound like a good idea but you cannot do that if it leaves a gap in your resume. Some places do not care about your age such as govt positions so age is not an issue if you know where to apply.
