New to California
I recently moved from Florida to California due to deaths of both my husband and Mom. I am finding it very strange that in order to become a caretaker for older people (been one for 10 yrs with no pay), that one must have a license for that and pay for it themselves, and also a TB test If I had the money for this, I wouldn't need a job. I also applied for a babysitting job and found out I must be trained in CPR, as well as pay for my own background check, as well as another type of check. Why are there so many obstacles to obtaining a simple job in this state? Don't get me wrong, it is beautiful here, and I love it, but if I don't get a job soon I'll have to leave and I don't want to be forced to do that because I love this beautiful state.

where at in California?
Barbara, I can understand your frustration. Each state has different regulations for those who provide healthcare. They do this for your safety as well as your potential patients. With your recent losses, my condolences to you and your family. I believe you may be eligible for some type of scholarship money. You can take the CPR class on line for a minimal cost. A TB test is a very simple procedure covered by insurance. If you don't have medical insurance a walk in clinic can do it, as well as your PCP. It's less than 100.00 or an insurance copay. Your class to be a CNA could be done in a couple of weeks. Your'e all the better for taking it. It's important knowledge that you need. No state would ever allow anyone to be paid for providing any aid to anyone without knowing and being certified in basic CPR. So stay where you love, follow the rules. It will cost you less than a new outfit in CA! Best of luck. You'll be fine. Just do one thing at a time. Don't be overwhelmed. You have all the support you need in this group of great people!
