What would you do if your commitment and integrity was questioned?

I recently interviewed for a position was hired on the spot and started the next day. I quickly realized that the position was not what was advertised and the employer was wanting more of a personal assistant. Not to mention I only had 3 hours with the person who's job I was taking over then was left alone for the rest of the day with no idea what I was supposed to do and didn't see the employer again before the end of the day. That evening I emailed and thanked her for the opportunity and explained my concerns as to why I didn't think the job was the right fit. She responded and said she wanted me to reconsider I said thank you but no. The following Monday I get a text from her accusing me of accessing her office over the weekend, yes I was told the door code once but was never given an alarm code. I immediately responded and said I was not in her office and had no reason to do so. She then proceeded to try to talk me into coming back to work for her! I again said no thank you. The next day I get a text that says basically I obviously have a problem with committing to something and have no integrity and that's not someone she wants working for her.

Administrative Assistant at Self-Employed

You did the right thing...there is something wrong with her...you would be walking on eggshells working for her. You dodged a bullet. I don't think you have a commitment problem...this lady has a personality disorder. Good luck I hope you find a great job.

Upcoming business graduate seeking an internship position

The late Peter Drukker had a quote "Never push a loyal associate to the point they no longer care. " The spin that they are doing be grateful both of you are dodging a bullet. The truth is never far behind you cannot lie all the time and get away with it.

You handled the situation beautifully and politely even after the accusation that she made to you. She definitely has problems and you chose not to be a part of them. Instead, you advocated for yourself and maintained your strong standards and values. Congratulation!

You were fortunate to get away when you did, which was immediately. You did the smart thing, so don't second-guess your decision. You're worth more than a working life filled with uncertainty and bullying. Go for something worthwhile, and I know you'll find it!

that happens when you don't ask questions or communicate. you waited till the last minute to quit because you thought the job would meet your expectations and that was not discussed before hire. you assumed something that was a faulty perception.

Be thankful for your good judgement on deciding that it was NOT the right fit for you! You gave her notice, that was all that courtesy requires of you. Just a gut feeling, but I'll bet she has mowed thru multitudes of assistants, which she actually thinks of as "minions" or she would have given you some direction as to your responsibilities or at a minimum, given you a handbook to keep you busy! Imagine the many crimes & misdemeanors, possibly felonies you might have been accused of had you stayed even one more day or a month! 😱 That person has no effect on the rest of your life unless you allow it! Anyone who she may have been able to spread her ridiculous allegations would immediately understand your very rational explanation as to why you chose NOT to remain at that job beyond the first day! As to her libelous allegations about your entering her office, you have the obvious truth & libel is a prosecutable crime that she may already be familiar with!! 😉

Lisa Duncan. You dodged a very big bullet. Have you ever heard someone say "when you point your finger at someone, three are pointing back at you"? Well, she did just that. First SHE misrepresented herself, deceived you, then she accused you of getting into her space. Then she wants you to come back. She is deceptive & confused. Then tries to say you can't commit. Projection on her part all over the place. You are not the one with the problem. Count yourself lucky, continue your job search & don't give this another thought.
