Hi Everyone! Last check?

I think I know the answer but I want to confirm. I was wondering when you get laid off aren't they supposed to have your final check that day and if they don't and its two weeks later , what should you do?

Kalyn, that would depend on the HR dept. If they get a list of personnel that are being laid off it would depend on how long did you work on your last day. But your check should be days later.

Hi Kalyn. You should contact your former HR person via e-mail and ask for the status of your final paycheck. In your e-mail, you should specify that you need an answer within 48 hours. If you don't hear back within 48 hours, it's time to visit your state Dept. of Labor to lodge a complaint. Almost all states are pro-employee, so you shouldn't have a problem getting what is rightfully owed to you. The alternative would be that the Dept. of Labor could launch a full-scale investigation and audit into your former employer . . . and nobody wants that!

It depends on the laws of the state you live in. You should be able to find the information on the internet for your state.

Good luck!

I think it might depend on when your regular payday is.
