I read a very interesting post this morning...Parents Role in the Job Search

DeSoto Times-Tribune - Angela Copeland video version of the article. Parents should have a very small part of their adult child's job search. I question this issue: Should parents have a very small part in their adult child’s job search? Or, should the parents be invisible? Read article... ....→I want to hear what you think of this article

Interesting: Make sure that their children did make good use of the college/technical school/University Job Placement area. While almost all accredited schools have them. I have been reading a good percentage of students are not taking advantage of them. I think more along the lines of encouraging them, making sure they are aware of different places to look for assistance. As let's face it young men and women fresh out of the college/University experience. Most likely are not going to pay too much attention to back in the day guidance from parents. So it needs to be more of here is some info for you. And ideally needs to happen before they graduate. And I think this is super critical that parents have made sure their children understand how student loans private or federal work. Before children are buried alive. Do they really understand how to budget well.

Should Parents look for opportunities to talk to their student to understand who they have become during their years in college, what kind of day-to-day work life they find attractive, what jobs are out there, and where they might fit? It may be very different from what the parent had been envisioning. If so, what can a well-meaning parent do to support their student or recent graduate through this process?

I have hired and fired hundreds of people in my life. And I can tell you with 100% certainty I threw out every application that a parent was involved in. Employees are hired to be loyal, responsible, trustworthy adults that add value to a company. If they cannot take the initiative themselves? And mommy has to help them? I'm off the deal. I know that sounds blunt, but that is how it works. The fastest way to not get a job is to have a third party holding your hand at any step of the process.

I FEEL THAT PARENTS SHOULD ALWAYS PLAY APART IN THEIR CHILDREN'S AFFAIRS TO MAKE SURE WHATEVER THEIR PERSUING GOES RIGHT AND THEIR NO BEING MISLED OR BEING TAKING ADVANTAGE OF IN ANY SITUATION.

I feel like the only part a parent should play in a childs job system is that of support and reassurance. The job search can be stressful, and having someone in your corner cheering you on and helping you get past rejections (especially for teens starting out), can greatly aid the search.

Otherwise, they should not be doing anything. Great topic Steven Ransom !
