Maybe a career as a communications engineer would be right for a man who loves numbers and technology
Hi. My name is Ruben Glueck and I am a math PhD. I am at home with numbers, I can do long calculations flawlessly and I can dig through dense information looking for a flaw. I think being a technical professional in the communications industry would be a good fit. Does your company want more than merely a number cruncher but someone who has reflected on deep quantitative ideas for decades? Do you want to add a spark to the office with puzzles, magic and brainteasers all with a mathematical flavor? Contact me today! I live in Los Angles 90027. There are more communications companies that you can count. Could you give me some advice on how to find a home in the communications industry that values an experienced problem solver? Check out my web site: http://rubenglueck.wixsite.com/portfolio If I get the job, I'll take you out to dinner! Cheers! Ruben

Those sound like jobs that aren't super similar to me. But you could try networking with people in communications and seeing if it's a good fit for you.
have you looked into programming (python, C++, etc) engineering CAD? Metallurgy? Data Analysis?
