questionable termination
I was fired from a job when I was seven months pregnant. The reason given was I was careless with company property which was not the case however I work in at will state so it doesn't matter the reason for the termination. What is a good way to handle the question "Why were you fired?" when it comes up in an interview?

I probably wouldn't even add that job to my resume or application. But if so I'd say it was undetermined and explaine what happened. I have a question for you. Would you happened to have ever lived in Sterling,Utah? I had a friend there and she moved away when we were young. She has the same name as you.

Your 7 months pregnant & they fired you? Then told you to reapply in 6 months? yeah do the math It's 3 months after you have your child. I don't think they wanted to pay your family leave....I would ask a lawyer & maybe contact EEOC..

Do not tell the employer you were let go or that you quit before they could fire you. You best answer to "Why were you fired?" is "I was under-qualified for the job, therefore, it is best that I seek employment that offers the right experience for my knowledge, skills, and abilities. I hope that my new employer will invest in the training necessary (workshops) for enhancing the knowledge of its organizational structure and culture. Such tools would allow me to adjust to myriad changes that affect my job performance, as we all know, a paradigm shift can make or break an employer. I want to be fully equipped to assist in the organizational change; to be employed for the long run, as I do not believe in short-term successes."

Hi,Kristin, problems and trials are blesssings because in our helpless state it is when you can see GOD's power of miracles at work in your life.Pls be optimistic the best is yet to come.GOD in HIS sovereignity will turn the bad situations into good.

keep a positive attitude. let all know what you think was the cause of you getting booted. i was a manager got booted after 4.5 years by a foul boss. all that saw my work history said that you must have been gone on to be there almost five years. the foul boss kept trying to get me booted when i was disabled temporarily. I was thrown out for being injured. feisco in Sarasota was fine with it. the corporate world is one of the most harmful work environments for stress and abuse of workers. we are in a pro-employer no rights worker world. i went on to do my own thing which was my calling, happy they booted me.

We had a case like that in Massachusetts. The Chairman Of The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority also ran The Secretary Of Transportation and Constructions Office along with The Massachusetts Highway Department. The Chairman fired this state worker for unjust cause. He was going to have to appeal his firing. He went to his union who told him that they could not do it. He hired an expensive, high powered Boston attorney who argued quite successfully that the termination was unjustly wrong. He won and received an undisclosed amount of money and he was able to work in the state once again, but in a different agency. Then one night a few of The Chairman's men found this guy and took him down to the lower garage and put him into a car and drove off along Route 9 westbound. His body was found ten miles from Boston and it was burned beyond recognition. I knew who did this and made a phone call into the State Police Headquarters in Weston. Nothing ever happened. The Case is a Cold Case and hopefully someone or something will break and this one will provide closure for his family. The moral of the story DO NOT MESS WITH THE CHAIRMAN OF THE MASSACHUSETTS TURNPIKE AUTHORITY OR ELSE YOU WILL BE DEAD. Steven Fanale

Were you replaced by someone else? This sound like a good discrimination case based on pregnancy. Please visit or write to the nearest State or Federal EEOC office. Remember, you have time limits to report this.

Being in an at will State is no reason not to file for unemployment. If you are able to work now you should file and tell them what the the employer told you about the termination. Any time you are discharged the employer has to prove why. At the time of discharged you should have been given paperwork. Sounds like you were discharged because you were pregnant
