Why is it when you turn 68 in years, no one wants to hire you?
Please explain this to me thanks sharon cunningham

Age Discrimination and it is very difficult to prove your case. Don't let it discourage you. They can't take credit for you past experiences if they (the employers) do not hire you. Their loss. Also, if you are a member of AARP or not they have an Employment Listing. Go to AARP.com/Jobs (something like that) Very cool site for older adults looking for quality jobs 55+

well mrs Sharon I wish I had a answer for you but like a lot of people on here im over 50 lost my job over 25years of experience finding a hard time here in Houston (a good job market)finding employment, but Im not giving up and don't you quit trying either good luck

HI Sharon, I know the feeling and I'm 61. We all have this experience and skills and no one wants them, or us for that matter. And I find that so sad! I have been working three part time jobs, one of which, was posted as full time for another branch. I applied, did not receive any phone calls for the interview, yet found out that the interviews were begun and ending. I got an email message from HR that stated: "your resume was impressive but we have found someone who match better". It's the same position I am doing ( along with several others who also applied and didn't get phone calls either). Somehow, it is becoming more common for employers to get someone without any experience at all rather than to look at who they already have. I have almost given up, but decided,I'm not ready to retire yet.

Good day we'll Miss Flossie have been working in Retail all my life am 57 now and the job force have change tremendously. I have two degrees but the state of N.C. Just don't do anyone with or without a degree justice smh. Finding a job is harder now than ever especially for us Seniors I have seen crazy decesion making in the job posting from u over qualified, under qualified or I can't pay you what you are asking and too top it off what they want too pay you is not worth your time. They post on the application that the organizationdon't discriminate but really they do because of our age they will use a procedure I call the job has already been filled ( when it really isn't ) just too justify the age factor! But there is Good News!!! Organization's in the Food Industry are always hiring we have too eat right?? I work at a Grocery Store Chain and I know u will enjoy it if you are a people person.

Hi Sharon, We'll I'm about to hit 56 and I just lost a 30k a Yreka job due to downsizing and I've been looking for months. No one wants to hire me because of my age, and even though I have many years of experience I'm not looked at because I don't have a degree either. I looked into getting a bachelors degree online but the satellite Internet wasn't good enough for the course streaming, I'm 30 miles from the nearest town to boot, and I wasn't to sure I wanted to go 50k into debt for a degree.

I'm only 55 just lost my 30+know job to downsizing and I haven't been able to get a new job either. I know that they aren't supposed to take age into account, but under the table they do, they look at the benefits/medical issues, although I'm rarely ever sick or miss work because of it, could not say the same for the managers where I worked. Also my years of skill and experience don't account for anything because I don't have a degree I'm not worth looking at. I had considered an online course to get a bachelors, but 1, my crappie satellite Internet wasn't good enough to handle the course streaming and 2, I wasn't prepared to go 50k into debt for it....

I got hired at age 68. As of april 1, I have been on the job for 1 year.

I would love to know because even at 45 its near impossible, and i can out work ones half my age.

That bill alone would make me just scare the heck out of me makes me want to give up on working and being part of society. OF course I am not going to do that but it sure kills the great thoughts you have of a fun retirement. I am sorry you went to all the schooling and effort only to the kick in the butt.
The issue really starts at 40 and mid-management. Anyone who has access to health care (Medicare 65+) should be a great part-time employee. Have you considered part-time or 1099 work? I would think a non-profit would love your life experience.
