Age disclosure

I was required to indicate my age as part of a personality assessment. It was not part of the application process per se. Still, the hiring manager is going to see the results of the assessment. Am I right to feel that this is a violation of some sort?

You know they can't ask if you live as male or female but they sure like the age question huh! We older working folks don't have a shot.

Go to human resources management and see if you need to answer the questions. That is a part of discrimination.

If the employer is an equal opportunity employer, then age shouldn't be a factor. You should look for jobs that have an equal opportunity employer. Otherwise' they're violating your rights' and misleading people if they say they're an equal opportunity employer.

...letter of the law ...ays that employers are not supposd to discriminate on the basis of a candidate's age. 'Spirit' of the law...says that there is nothing wrong with employers who 'happen' not to select candidates that are past a certain age... They (employrs) may interview anyone they want; regardless of age. However, they are not required to hire everyone they interview. No violations; just a way to 'Bob and Weave' around 'certain' characteristics... However... these days... not an uncommon hiring practice at all...

As I stated in my reply to the woman who wrote about "demographics"--she is absolutely wrong. By federal law, you are NOT obliged to give any demographic information whatsoever. Demographic notes are gathered for statistical purposes only. And they are completely ANONYMOUS. Those forms generally come at the tail end of the application process , and there will be a 'CHHOSE NOT TO DISCLOSE box to check after each question. The information is eventually forwarded to the EEOC to get a picture of who's being hired.

The only question they are allowed to ask (by law) is if you are at least 18 years of age or if you will be dealing with alcohol.at least 21 years of age. Other than that, they cannot ask you how old you are or the year you were born.

You should never disclose your age to anyone in the work place. You should know you have every right to not give that info to anyone where you work. No matter the situation, you have that right to never give that out.
