What about the dads
My wife is soon to have our baby and will be going on maternity leave. Why don't dads also get some leave time to be with their family? I know some companies are starting to do this, but it should be a common policy across the board. I want to enjoy this time with my newborn and help my wife but my my company doesn't allow this. Who is with me!

FMLA applies to both the mom and dad taking leave

Have you requested paternity leave and been denied?

I am with you 100 % This important time in your family takes precedence over any job! These are the moments you can't get back. Your wife needs you during the stressful times of post labor. This "stressful" environment could be altered to a peaceful loving homecoming for baby, with both parents support. All companies should give the fathers maternity leave!!!

i here you martin i understand how you feel , just be there and be strong for your family too. god bless you and your family tootake care , my name is john

You do it's called the Family medical leave act. FMLA. All companiesust secure.your job for 12 weeks. Look into it. It's a federal law. I was hit by a drunk driver and had to have surgery and my husband (my boyfriend) at the time was allowed time off to help me because of this. I also received 6 months off from my job as well 12 weeks from my job and 12 weeks FMLA. Once you apply and recieve it you have a full year to use all 12 weeks.

We are so far behind the curve on family leave for milestones in life. In fact, Americans don't even take their vacation time they are due. Why? I think that companies often take their employees for granted and that means limited time off.

FMLA--- Family and Medical Leave Act.

You can ask for fmla part of that is to take care of a newborn
Legally they have to allow it. Ask your HR department for an FMLA form. Typically, a Doctor must fill out a form explaining the medical necessity for your time off. You should have this done before the baby comes so you are able to take time off immediately.
Congrats on the upcoming blessing!
