Just make sure when you are buying your first home that the other person applying for the loan (you mentioned "we") has held their position for at least one year (two is better) to make you desirable candidates. I just went through this process myself! Also, save whatever you can for your down payment. As for work, keep applying and make sure to follow up with your applications.
