Is this the same as getting fired??

I was laid off from Lowe's and when I tell people they keep saying sorry you got fired. Is that what they will say when my next job calls my references? Was I fired?!! What's the difference and what do I say during an interview??

No it's not. I've had people tell me it's the same thing and it's not at all. Annoying to me that people think that it is.

Being laid off is NOT the same as being fired because it is not considered to be the fault of the employee. It is, actually, the fault of the employer. A layoff is often called a "reduction in force" or "down-sizing" and usually, more than one employee loses their job.

fired and laid-off are two sides of the same coin. basically you were let go from a company: laid-off was from no reason of your own, fired was a from reason the company deemed as your own. Many people use these terms interchangeably because whether fault of your own or not, you were let go by the company.

#Laidoff usually means lack of work. Normally you are told by a supervisor that you are terminated or fired. So yes there is a difference.

Did they say you were layed off, your position was eliminated, what did they say? If the above is true than your entitled to unemployment.

Hi Mia, you are really strong. Though there is no fault in you. But may be circumstances are that you got a laid off. But it's better to see different opportunities and to follow up for the last time.

Better opportunities are waiting you know!! Will always chant for you!! What ever you can truly reverse the situation by chanting Nam Myoho Renge Kyo as I am doing for you my friend!!

All the best!! God bless you

If you weren't terminated for cause (stealing, absences, tardiness, poor performance, etc.) then you were laid off. No worries. Even if you were fired for cause, they can't say anything bad about you when perspective employers call to verify your employment history.

There are plenty of other jobs out there. Start focusing on the future.

FYI... thousands of people were laid off from Lowe's. So that being said u should know there's a network for folks like you. It's call WE GOT YOUR BACK. That means Amazon, Kohl's etc know that Lowe's did massive layoffs. In fact contact Lowe's and find out about the network. They should be able to give you info. Unemployment bureau should also have that information too.

U were not fired. What this is reduction in work force. So apply for unemployment and be sure to say that u were laid off so that way u won't be denied. Meanwhile consider going to local tech school to gain a skill such as medical assistant, phlebotomy, etc., unemployment can help w that too. Otherwise apply for jobs and make clear u were laid off due to reduction in work force bcuz this is not ur fault. Sometimes employer will recall employees BUT there's no guarantee it will happen anytime soon. The layoff is a blessing in that u r still a good employee.

You get fired when you do something wrong. You could say they had a reduction in force or cutback. Good luck.
