What are 3 short term courses I can take to help me qualify for a Technical Help Desk job?

I have basic technical skills with no degrees or certifications to qualify for a technical support position. I’m interested in a 6 - 12 month training course to build my qualifications and candidacy for these jobs.

When I am looking at an employee coming on as an entry level with no history / experience on their resume the following would be a plus to show that the person is working to prove their abilities: A+ and Network + prove a basic understanding of computers and networks.
Add a third entry to your certs look at HDI Desktop Support Technician (HDI-DST) This certification verifies that professionals in the desktop support technician role possess the knowledge of customer service and service management processes, as well as the necessary best practices, to provide high quality service and support at the desk-side. And a final option that is starting to be widely used is the ITIL Foundation level Certification. This is the entry level qualification which offers you a general awareness of the key elements, concepts and terminology used in the ITIL service lifecycle and the processes used and their contribution to service management practices. This package of certifications proves a technical level knowledge and expands your offerings to the potential employer that you are able to understand the interactions required to work with customers and understand the whole service management practices and interaction that exist within IT. Both the HDI and the ITIL certs are fairly inexpensive and easy to pass the exams.

SQL server and Microsoft Active Directory are two certifications that should gelp you secure a help desk position. A+ is OK, but these two plus a Microsoft certification should land you a nice job.

A+ certificatio, or Network+ certification. Either one can be done on your own and will serve you well in IT.

The A+ training is the best preparation for the PC help desk role. On the software side you would do well to study a programming language, data structures, and database fundamentals. Best wishes to you.
