Director of Operations

After helping build a company and working for the same company for 25 years, I was forced into early retirement. After being informed of when my last day was, which was six weeks later, I was told I needed to stay on to train and inform my replacement on what my job is. The real irritating situation is that the person who terminated me is my brother!

Well, that will make the holidays super awkward.

I am assuming they were looking to cut operating costs and were able to find someone willing to do the job for a lot less. Sadly, that is the norm and so is the "train your replacement" approach which is highly insulting and insensitive.

This is also a good reason why you should never work with family. I am sure your brother didn't want to let you go unless he is the owner of the company. I am sure he was following a directive from higher up.

I could also be 100% wrong and this is just a messed up situation.
