Dear Julie, Ra'mon explained very important points and was helpful to you, I am sure, by giving you examples as well! I have learned that it is vital that in the Cover Letter you "directly and simply explain concisely" how hiring you would benefit their company, specifically how hiring you will positively impact their organization and in what ways. Look deep into what the organization does and what they are about, and try to simply tie in how your skills and experience benefits them. You see, it is vital, absolutely vital that our Cover Letters tel a perspective employer these points. Julie, always remember that you address and understand that it is not about you being excited about the possible hiring or all your experience - only; but it is about what you bring to the organization through benefiting factors you can back up! You see, I learned that it is not about us, but about them. Do you see what I mean?

Julie it's quite simple, be confident and conceited on a professional level. Write a to the point 50-75 word paragraph explaining why you are the best candidate for employment and stress your qualifications as well as qualities. No employer wants to hear how much of a leader you are, but that can be tweaked by simply stating that you are a natural leader as well as a team player that have the ability to make critical decisions and that you are willing to seek help for those things that you may not know. Make sure you say you're seeking a career not just a job and you're ready to work your way up that administrative ladder." This takes away that uncomfortable moment of having to discuss wages, let the interviewer bring up that situation. And do your wage/salary research so you're not introduced to the crumbs! Know your worth!!! Be blessed !

The first thing you need to do when you write a cover letter Julie is to make it "eye catching". EX: Your "shiny star". Let the company know what you bring to the table, and make sure you acknowledge ALL your strengths. Retail experience is one thing, but administrative is another. Both are rewarding, and you can mix your talents to show them that you can be an administrative/HR because: You know how to deal with people, resolve issue, well organized, etc. Find out what they are looking for and then add your experience to that in your cover letter. Stand out from others by not saying things like: Responsible for....... instead say: I accomplished ..... Get what I'm saying? Good Luck!

Be blunt: say that while your job titles were not administrative, you routinely did administrative tasks for 20 years. Then, make sure your job experience notes the administrative and HR aspects of your experience.

Experienced Administrative Professional

Hi Julie,

You have received some great tips. From reading ur request for help, you are articulate and expressive in ur writing. You have a beautiful smile and the courage I feel in your writing. Hold onto your confidence as you definitely have it. Believe in yourself as you have told us in your writing. You say you have a lot to offer and you do. Go with that thought about yourself and you can do it. Also pray every morning and every night for God to guide you and seek solitude spend a day in Silence with your own soul in God. Stay calm and in silence in solitude and the words will come to you.

Good Luck Julie. As an HR assistant those companies will definitely need someone like you. If you lived in New Jersey I could put you in touch with some people that could help you. Definitely attend a networking group as this will boost your confidence. Interview with staffing agencies and they can help you, too, with direction.

Start sending out those letters to companies while you are.practicing waiting curlers. It's all about what you can do for them, the company.
