Bad reference
How do you handle situation where you feel your former employer is giving you bad reference????

Looking for good job

Sam
Get written recommendations from your employers before you leave your job. If you don’t leave on good terms ask for a letter of employment which states Hen you worked there, last payrate, position held and are you eligible for rehire. This way there is no reason for a phone employment check and anything said over the phone or in an email that is different from the letter you received would be considered slander. Now your future job does not depend on the “mood “ of your past employer when he or she receives the phone call asking questions about your employment with your past employer. Even bad financial times can lead a past employer to give a foul reference.
BOTTOM LINE GET THAT LETTER and avoid the phone calls that are usually handled with emotions. Good luck.

Hi Sam. Why would u feel this way? In my experience companies verify your date of hire...ending date of employment and s few other matters. Did u leave that employer on good terms or did u share too much information on an interview of a possible hire.

It's been my understanding that a former employer is only supposed to verify that you worked there. That's all.

What type of job you doing? And if it's the medical field it's against the law..

Idk how I would handle it

I don't worry cause I'm a great worker and i did my job well and to the best of my ability i was a over night server that worked alone from 11pm-6am

Hello Sam; My advice to you for bad references is to counteract the bad reference by adding as many good or positive references as possible. You can also send a letter to the organizations CEO naming the person who gave the negative commentary and request that the employer only give dates of employment.

Sam this is what you do eliminate that particular employer from your Resume FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No Ifs and or buts about it. That is what you do. It’s against the lawn for your former employer to do anything but verify you position and your dates of employment. However, it’s very hard to prove that you’ve been given a bad reference, someone would have to swear that they recited a bad reference from your former employer and it is highly unlikely that they will do that
