ghosted after a position was offered.

Opinons or suggestions: I was recently awarded an offer for a position with Parks and wildlife department in IT, after about a month of waiting for a decision, they finally made me an offer for the job based on stating I was their #1 choice. Then I was instructed to get my background check done at a 3rd party fingerprinting company. after getting a clear background check I was then waiting on my start date which should have been immediately, but I was told by the recruiting company that the parks and wildlife department HR did a second background check and apparently something came up that "they didn't like" after that I was apparently dropped, because they never got back to my recruiter with a start date, nor would they return any inquiries to the recruiting companies hiring manager. So first of all, why would they run a 2nd background check after a fingerprint check came back clear. In my experience if there is ever any dispute with a normal background check you are instructed to get fingerprinted to verify incase of identity theft of any other confusion with another person of the same name. Second, why would a place like parks and wildlife not return any calls after I was already offered the job? Lastly, I just received several emails from other recruiting companies that the same position I was offered, is now open again. Any thoughts or suggestions?

It is a scam, pure and simple. They were just getting all the information from you they could and now some company has your finger prints as well. That would highly have me po'ed. I would do my best to find out who these people really are and file charges. I have a stack of checks on my desk where people are trying to buy stuff I am selling on Ebay and Craigslist for a company I am helping liquidate. If I cash the checks, they already have a plan that "it would be so much more convenient for me to pay the movers when they get there, so it's added in my check". Right! And when (I'm not going to) I deposit the check, they will send a mover and I will pay them an extra 1k dollars, and 2 days later, the check is returned. NSF/Fraudulent Funds. Count your blessings you got out without it costing oyu anything. I'm sure glad I checked into all of it before doing any business with anyone like that. My sister is 75 years old and is getting phone calls saying her SS number has been suspended. Then they have her call them and they ask for her number to check on it. Thank goodness she had a call coming in from her doctor (that she needed to take) and she accidently cut them off.

We try to handle her affairs, but it's getting harder and harder to keep up. My job of 42 years ended in May, just 5 years shy of full retirement age for SS. Thank goodness for this one to hold me over.

Government agencies often run a background check in addition to fingerprinting. I find it interesting that your post never says outright that you don't have a criminal background, but that you just state that a second check returned negative results whereas the fingerprinting didn't.

Fingerprinting is not a gold standard and is rife with problems stemming from collection errors or records not being updated to reflect criminal backgrounds. This is why fingerprinting is seldom used as the SOLE source of a criminal background check. They most likely ran fingerprints AND ran a background check and the check came back later than the fingerprint results.

If you have a criminal background, you will find it very difficult to land a government job. If you don't have one, consider hiring a lawyer to look at your record and have it expunged of erroneous data.

Best of luck to you!

I think you have a right to know what they found in the second check that was undesirable. I would contact an attorney on this one.

1st of all local state or federal are never in a hurry to hire. I've waited for mos on an application it's not uncommon. 2nd are you clean then the background chk should have been clean. It's been my experience over the years that some employers. Will not discuss reasons for hiring and not hiring. It's a liability for them 3rd hackers are rampant. No matter how much they say they can stop it. They dont have the budget or the manpower. If you have the money I'd run an independant background and fingerprint to see if you have some skeletons in the closet you arent aware of. 4th I've been hired on the phone several times then called back or was told that they had made mistakes on checking employment. If you live in an at will state there is not much you can do about it move on. The job was listed again maybe it was a new job listing. Just because it's the same job and description doesn't mean it's the same position you were offered. Personally I think you failed the background check. Employers dont have to talk to you or give any explanation. If you think you have a case talk to a lawyer good luck

Sorry Parks and Recreation and you waited a month to hear from them I'm hoping you were working a steady job as you were waiting for a response from them. By the way it's more than time to give up on them they probably got five thousand applications

I’d be sure to find out what’s in your background check to see if what’s reported is true or accurate. It does sound strange that the first check came back clean...

As frustrating as it may be, move on. A company that doesn’t run calls or is not transparent is not a good luck. Put them in your rear view mirror. Easier said than done sometimes I know.....

Print all of the documentation that you received from the recruiter and Park and Wildlife department. Then contact a lawyer. Tell the lawyer that you received an offer and the offer was denied after doing a second background check. Because you're Hispanic, they ran a second background check on you and that's discrimination. The question is... Is running a second background check standard procedure. Fight for your job or make them pay you for damages. You may have stop looking for job when you thought you had one.
