Behavioral Interview

“Tell me about a recent situation in which you had to deal with a very upset customer or coworker?”

Good story telling is the key to success on an interview.

The STAR interview method is designed to help you outline the specific details of a previous workplace experience where you went above and beyond in a manner that is both concise and descriptive. Here are the basics:

Situation - describe the situation, challenge, or problem you were confronted with. “The customer was irate because…”

Task - what’s your end goal? “My goal was to satisfy this customer complaint within a timely manner."

Action - describe in detail the specific actions you took. Keep the focus on YOU. “I immediately took ownership of the customers concerns and…”

Result - Time to shine! Describe the positive outcome(s) produced by your actions.

I had a customer that was upset because we didn't have a certain product. I attempted to explain that the delivery was not made in time by the produce company and that I would gladly substitute something in the place of the item in question. At first the customer was still upset but after I took the time to explain several other items available he seemed satisfied with another choice. After checking on the customer several times during his meal and refilling his drink, he left happy and satisfied .

How does one answer why do you want to work here at this company? Really don't know what is a good response

This is a great method, Marcus! Framing conflict to reflect the positive rather than the negative can be difficult, but the STAR method breaks it down beautifully!
