Micromanager
How in the world do you work successfully with these people? I just started a new position 30 days ago. My boss sits behind me and watches everything I do. And I do mean everything. He watches when I leave, come in, take a break, go to the bathroom, come back from the bathroom, eat, what I do at my desk all day and etc. We have a 30-60 daily meeting where he goes over my time, if I take a personal call or what have you. He is obsessed that I stay busy at all times and make sure that we work 40 hours per week. Well, we actually work more than 40 hours per week that we don't get paid for. This is the 3rd one of these type of people I had to work for over the past three years. Not sure what it is in the interviews that makes them think I'm a good fit for that type of environment. I'm a laid back employee who works best without constant management. Once I know what needs to be done and who to contact. It's good. As you can guess, I'm looking for another job.

Susan, micro-managers are horrible, but it usually stems more from being worried, more than a power play. I typically ask them why they are micro-managing people, to which they normally deny. I then point out a few examples, and make sure they understand that is not how I work best. I then go about my job at my pace, which normally bores them completely. If they start to say something about my pace, I remind them they said they don't micro-manage. Lastly I force them to talk about them, which normally drives them away, as you are getting into their ego (positive or negative). Mainly, have fun with it, Good Luck...

I feel for you. That would drive me insane. I hope you find something else soon.
Oh that's just awful. I wouldn't have lasted as long as you did Susan. I am sorry that he feels the need to watch you so obsessively. There is really no need for that and he can just as easily check in once or twice throughout the day. He's borderline stalking you AT work, ugh! Have you reached out to HR yet?
